Gun safe, any good ones ????
I have seen a few on
line and with free shipping and all, and of course I will put my Crickets in them and a few long guns and pistols,,,,,
I need one that will hold a minimum of 12 to 17 rifles and 10 to 12 pistols .
I am headed to Sam’s to look at there’s this evening,
Just something on my Christmas list I thought I would throw out there….

I’ll echo everything Mike said, but more emphatically.
Unless by ‘rifle’ you mean english-stocked traditional muzzleloaders (basically sticks) you aren’t going to get anywhere close the the stated number of rifles in there. It’s not just scopes either. Pistol grips, carry handles, stocks with lots of drop all take 2-3 rifle spaces each. While it doesn’t look like it, I’ve found the horseshoe arrangement the best for my rifles.
Consider fire protection – that is, consider it, but carefully. It won’t protect your optics, it probably won’t protect your guns, and it’s probably only a reasonable extra expense if you are going to store valuable papers. For most I think it’s an extravagance.
If you’re going to spend less than $10,000 the safe you get is going to be distinctly ‘medium’ security, no matter how much the manufacturer tries to dazzle you with talk of re-lockers, extra locking bars, etc. The bad news is that it’s really not hard for a determined thief to get into any of the major safes: Liberty, Fort Knox, National Security, etc. The good news is that there aren’t that many determined thieves and in that situation one safe is probably as good as the next. (Considering only ‘real’ safes – not sheet metal lock boxes, which are distinctly inferior).
Given the foregoing, I’d look for the biggest safe I can get for the best price. When I looked for mine I ended up with a Liberty in no small part because there was a local dealer, so I wasn’t getting stuck with $100’s extra in delivery charges.

And only one paper target. I have to patch the holes when I hit it,
Its set a 30 yards and I hit it at least one out of ten shots,
But I made a very good back stop out of an old glass door from my trailer house….
I just hope it stops the 25 Cal pellets at 930 FPS as my neighbors house is on the other side of my back stop.

Mike, something to consider:
When looking to purchasing a gun safe, its always good to buy a little large than needed unless the spot you are considering installation is critical on space. You will find more likely than not that the safe will not hold as many rifles as they claim due to most rifles being outfitted with scopes and for this reason if multiple rifles are scoped in the safe will general not accommodate the number of rifles as advertised. This is my personal experience and just thought I would give some food for thought as to deciding how big to go when deciding which safe. Another thought to consider, many buy for what they need for today without giving much thought to tomorrow’s needs. Buying one (once) can be cheaper than buying two should the need arise. And final note on this matter, rather of importance to you or not, Is that most safes are being used for a lot more than just firearms, also a means for storing jewelry, photos, important documents, etc, etc.
If American made is important to you then check out liberty safes and my personal favorite being the Hall’s safe.
