Gun safe help, please!!
I am about to buy a gun safe and wanted to hear the opinions of TAG members:
What brand to buy? What is the best gun safe out there?

I got one of my safes from Sams club, they typically have them on sale and are also fire rated for around $400.00 and hold around 12-16 long guns and 20-30 pistols all depends how you pack it.
I picked up a 280 pounds (approx) safe from harbor Freight. No fire rating, but very sturdy thick metal construction. It is made by a company called Bunker Hill Safes. It was around 270.00 bucks and in comparison to a similar priced safe from Tractor Supply, and another from Home Depot, it was clearly better made.
I agree with keeping it out of site, when wandering eyes fall upon your safe, the memory might be burned into the mind those eyes belong to and some dark day they may decide to come calling.
Ya can go 2 ways, One a fire safe/ full of concrete, or 2 a non-fire rated safe, no concrete.
I have a Amsec, non- fire rated. I bolted it to the floor, it’s not going anywhere.
As far as what safe to buy, I can’t help ya, but I will say, keep it outta sight.
I have a cheap ass hollow core door 2×4 cabinet hiding mine in the garage.
Displaying the safe for passers bye is not a good idea.

My safe is defiantly sturdy, however, I probably would have bought one full of concrete, if I had to do it all over again, lots more money and weight, but if your house goes up in flames you have a bit more time to keep your shit from melting.
Don’t mis- understand, even a fire rated safe, in a total inferno your guns can melt, but you have much more time to save the goods.
