Hammer De-bouncers
Why does an airgun need a hammer de-bouncer? I understand that the hammer is bouncing on the valve stem. I got that. My TSS doesn’t need one. My BSA doesn’t need one. Why does my Marauder need on? (Besides being a crosman). Is the hammer spring not right? Is there a problem with the valve itself?
I ask because I don’t like band-aid fixes.
Thanks guys. 😀

Hi WOK, that wasn’t passin’ my sniff test. I don’t want to introduce something that could, and probably will cause a greater problem, like you say, at the worst possible time. There is never a good time to have a little part jam one’s favorite air rifle.
I was shooting with some of the guys last weekend and it was pointed out to me that my .25 Marauder, that is tuned for power, was suffering from hammer bounce. My first thought was OH NO!!! However, I was beaning targets consistently from 50 to 100+ yards. Several powder burner guys tried my Marauder and were able to hit targets at those ranges also. They were surprised to say the least.
Thanks again for the reality check.
Matt, you really need a CF tank. 😉
yea, heard bout that, he needs shot in the balls! 😈 😈

I googled “Steve in NC” last night. Made for some interesting reading. Thanks for the heads up!
They are good for people like me! Pump, pump away!
I’m pretty sure my comments were not intended to support any particuler solution… especially so and so’s…
He made a post of hunting on his own property on an airgun forum. THe quail had been raised there but released on the property when the quail buisness closed.
So it is an important lesson that we have horrible people we have to watch out for when we post hunting posts.
Thats is one reason I worry about the numbskulls who post about killing cats. I fear they will get turned in and will have to get a lawyer because there are dirtbags that do turn you in.
That’s story about the quail says a lot about the character of this Steve guy. What kind of evidence did they have against the guy that shot the quail. Surely they don’t hand over $100 just on someone’s word.
Make the gun as balanced as you can. While a debouncer can work the person SteveNC who invents and markets them does not warranty or stand behind any of his products at all.
In fact when a fellow airgunner wanted warranty work on a regulator, who Steve did not like, he posted on the internet the fellow shot a quail on his property and solicited people to turn him in for a $100 reward and was instrumental in having him issued a citation and going to court.
If it breaks, which they do. You risk damaging your gun and will be out $$ because there is zero customer support. It is better to keep little knick knacks out of your gun and just avoid problems. It is easier to just fill the gun a few shots sooner then deal with that crap.
OK, by that logic, (extra efficiency does not warrent extra complication), your Maruader does not NEED a de-bouncer either.
You do not need one.
Since a hammer is being propelled by a spring it will bounce between the valve stem and mainspring. This can knock open the valve a bit and use more air.
Since I have HPA tanks and it takes only a minute to refill my gun, it really is not a big deal. If you have to pump or have a very limited air supply then getting the max number of shots from a charge is helpful.
For me adding a little piece of plastic or a bobble to jam the hammer so it does not bounce is simply a problem waiting to happen at the more inconvenient time
Any rebounding hammer system that allows air to escape the tank that is not effectively used to drive the projectile will benefit from something that stops the undesireable opening of the valve.
Your TSS might very well bnefit as might your BSA. I suspect the lack of availability of a solution for those guns and the subsequent lack of any evidence of improvement might just be confused with them not “needing” a debouncer.

I have a borrowed tank its quite large not quite sure what size but it’s only 3000 psi not 4500 psi. I’d like to get an 88 4500 tank.. I’d empty in one day of shooting because I’d be happy!
