Hammer riding on barrel

I would be interested in a hammer that rode the barrel as a guide as opposed to using the frame as a guide. If your familiar with Leupys hammers, something along those lines. His website is here if your not familiar.

I may be picturing this wrong, so correct me if I am please.

Anyway, if the hammer is smaller than the frame ID and is riding on the barrel, what is keeping it from tilting downward just before it impacts the breech?

The bearing surface would slide off the fat end of the barrel 1.5″ before it hit the breech. The smaller od of the hammer would allow it to tilt downward inside the frame, correct?
How much of a reduced OD of the hammer are we talking about?

Someone enlighten me. This sounds like a recipe for inconsistency.

Ah yes, the focus becomes clearer with reminders… It’s a pity you have to deal with the absurd levels of regulation that you do. Some day you and Paul will have to visit the states to shoot some 200-700+ FPE air rifles and try out your biggest, baddest valve without looking over your shoulder all the time!

Well, I suppose. Maybe. Originally I was trying to produce something that would be acceptable to all users, instead of the niche market I was really interested in. What I have now is a very simple legal power or full power choice, able to switch from one to the other in a couple of seconds. But relatively crude in an aesthetic sense.

Which is why I call it stupidly simple, rather than brilliant. I can’t describe it though, because the ‘wrong people’ would get the wrong idea and think it’s purpose was nefarious, rather than an option for those who have no licence for full-power domestically but have the means to shoot full-power abroad. I’m sure you get the picture. 😉 😆

I would never break the law, and any officer of the law who came upon me while shooting and confiscated my rifle for testing would find it well within the law. But I shoot only on private land, so that scenario isn’t likely.

What are you guys talking about with the lang/voltar thing? some one post up a link so I don’t feel so lost if ya would 😕

None of those ideas panned out anyway. The one I’m using now was stupidly simpler and works perfectly.

I can only guess how many people have come up with the idea of having the hammer ride on the barrel, and I doubt if Leupy was the first. The only people who were stupid enough not to were Airforce. 😆

Brad, rather than supplying stronger springs with the blodnob valves would it make sense to offer a bit heavier hammer instead? … that is, if a bit harder blow is required for those seeking ultimate power from the blodnob valves.

More spring tension also increases trigger pull weight, and that is not something I’d care to sacrifice on these guns if it can be avoided. The triggers aren’t the best as is.

It would be just as easy with the manual lathe, but my business partner loves to use the CNC lathe.

You could make a hundred by hand in the time it’d take to program the bloody CNC, it’s only a bit of frigging tube. 😆
