How did you get that o-ring on there ?

ok i adjusted it to dime thickness + oring and the knob fits so thats good and i also did some chrony and im getting way bettr consistency and #s than i was before i meen im getting lik 50 fps less but i can deal with that ill just turn the power wheel of my normal setting of 5.5 and change it to about 6.5 to gain back lost fps… and not mention that hammer ping its almost non existant af should start doing this to all there tanks (wait never mind that would run them bank rupt wouldnt it) but anyways it makes a big difference on sound… thanks again..

colster1000,
I just checked a couple old nickels 0.076 to 0.077″. You probably had the oring in that setting also. A 0.070″ oring + the nickel = about 0.147″. I’d say too much. Try adjusting the top hat so it just latched or a tad loose.

Harbor Freight has a nice digital calliper cheep and a set of gap gauges will make it easier to set. Check the size of a selection of gauge blades then snug the top hat down on thetip of the gauges and don’t crank the top hat screws tight. Just snug them until you have the adjustment where you want it . Then use a very little blue loctite on the tiny set screws. You can re-adjust a couple times before reapplying locktite.

ok i put an oring on and adjusted top hat to nickle width (my adjusting tool) and when i went to fire it the breech knob wont go into the little knoch in the frame is this bad???

k.. will do… ill try it tomorrow its to late to try it rite now but tomorrow its a go… thanks for the help..

colster1000,
I can’t answer that question but someone who has Tony’s mod may jump in here sooner or later. Some have copied the o-ring part and reported good results. I own 3 of Tony’s mods and they are 1st Class ❗

I have bad hearing except very low frequencies. I didn’t know I had a tank ping (I think it’s caused by hammer slap and tank resonance) until I got the ventilated front bushing mod. I got it tamed down a little with the top hat o-ring. Powderburner is the best source of info on the top hat o-ring.

Let us know if it helps somewhat with your hammerslap problem.

hmmmm….. il try it….. what does tonys slap mod do exactly.. does it just add an oring??

Short of attacking the hammer slap directly, how much might an o-ring behind the top hat help ❓
Of course you may have to open the top hat gap a little to return to your favorite FPS. But, it may improve air useage and consistency.
