Hammer weight and threaded frame insert???
I did a few searches and not really finding the info i’d like to know.
First does a Heavier hammer make a difference? After reading a couple of threads some say No.
2nd. is there a max weight to the hammer and is it in GRAMS or GRAINS?
3rd. Anyone use a threaded frame insert, to attach a shroud?

Did you test fit the threads on your threaded adapter? Usually conduit stuff is tapered pipe threads, gun stuff is straight threads.
Save yourself some dough and ask one of the guys here to do one cheap… 8)
Personally I would go with a Talon Tunes or Leupy hammer as you need something that willlide nicely in the frame and have the correct wieght for consistancy. As the guys say grub screws are safer threads not so much.

Ok, for the Hammer I found this-

Unfortunately it does’nt list it’s weight, nor can I find it on the internet, and I can’t find my scale so i can only assume it’s heavier then the stock hammer.
I also found a 3/4″ “rigid” Conduit coupler that is female threaded 1/2″ this is just a hair over 1″, a little time with some sandpaper and it fit’s snug in the frame with less play than the machined bushing that is in there now. All I need to do is dimple it for the grub screw.
Thanks for the replies! I think I may have found a suitable female threaded insert that may work, and a steel hammer that may work as well, i’ll try to get more info on them.
I, and I believe all the other guys as well use the factory set screw at the end of the frame to retain the shrouds as it helps keep them from being adapted to a firearm. If you need a nose piece with a male thread to attach a silencer they can be made, (the nose piece not the silencer). 😉
Grams is how they are usually listed.
I am using a 70 gram hammer in my .177 (standard bottle) for throwing 10.5 grain CPH’s at 975 fps with the power wheel on 4-8.
For .22 caliber and the standard bottle I am using a 75 gram hammer tossing 16 grain JSB’s at 935 fps with the PW on 11-8. (Hoots rifle)
My Compact .25 has a 90 gram hammer waiting for me to test in it soon .. and I may up that one to 100 – 105 grams with the high flow bottle depending on what I see for results.
I buy a new Talon and first thing yank out that factory hammer 😀
I use a 90 gram brass hammer from Talon Tunes, .058 tophat, and with the powerwheel set on zero it gave me these numbers. Personally I think wit the inside of the frame polished, no hammer spring preload my velocities seem a little more flat. Hope to get a 800cc tank next.

Did’nt test it yet. I plan to have one barrel inside of the frame so the opening is large enough. I may have to open it up a couple of mm to let the barrel thru.
So far my investment is $2.99, yea i’m a cheap a$$ bastard, i’m just trying stuff w/o having to see somebody w/ a mill and lathe. Walt has already offered his help, but I don’t want a “Hobby” for him turn into a “Job”. i’ll continue to try little things here and there, but if the job is too much for me i’ll be PM’ing a few members here.
