Q:

Hammer

Hello guys,
My name is George and I live in Greece, so please forgive my bad English…
This is my first post in your great forum but I have read and studied all the posts in Mods/Machinists section.
I think AirForce rifles are very good airguns, but in my country they cost over 1000€ and I think it doesn’t worth it!…
From what I’ve seen in here and all the great handmade talons you’ve made I think it’s possible for me to built my own handmade Talon!

I have understand how every part of these rifles works, except the hammer. I’m not sure where does it hide when you press the trigger.
I know something must hit the tophat to open the valve, but is this the hammer? And what is that part, that covers the tophat when you pull back the bolt after you have cocked the rifle? Does this part seal the valve to lead all the air in the barrel?
I am not sure if you can understand what I am talking about 😳

Can you post any pics on how the hammer and the parts around it works?

Would it be easier to just order pieces from some of the members here? Blodnob for example. just curious. Anyhow good luck with your project.

Tyrrund I did not know members sell parts!
Are there any links to see the staff they make?

#130 is the hammer

Good Lord almighty! That crap’s toxic. I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from an Ouzo
hangover I inflicted on myself in Montenegro in ’87. Makes the skin crawl just thinking
about it…

Welcome George!

George on my home built Vulture with an 800cc tank I get 8 shots of 460fpe + and 10 shots of 300fpe per fill.
466fpe was with 420 grainers and 300fpe is with 250 grainers 🙂

You said that breech transmits hammer hit to tophat/stem. Does it mean that hammer actually hits the breech and not the tophat? This would make the bolt move back a little. Does it happen?

Yes, George it does that.

Thanks man, now everything is clear!
I am thinking to go for a 30ft/lbs-top rifle. I don’t need more power. Maybe a regulated one.

I have seen you guys have over 300ft/lbs with your rifles. That is remarkable! How many shots you get with that much power?
And how many yards can you shoot with these rifles?

Welcome to the madness:)

the hammer is indeed ‘hiding’ in the frame in front of the ‘breech’ which is the spool you slide forward to cock the hammer.
The breech has a couple functions: transmit hammer hit to tophat/stem
seal the air on its way to the back of the pellet in the barrel.
