Q:

Hand pump grease

I was going to clean up my hand pump and I read that you take some alcohol and clean all the old grease and dirt off the shaft and then apply a really thin coat of grease.

I got the hill pump on trade and it’s got a lot of black stuff at the bottom of the pump tube.

My question is will divers grease work for this or is it special grease other than divers grease.

Thanks for all the replies guys and I put some divers grease on it and it’s smooth as glass, I can’t believe this pump doesn’t get hot from 2300 to 3000 psi and it’s barely warm after pumping 700psi.

I sure like the quality of this pump too it’s like a tank in construction and seems to gain pressure fast.

when I have to resort to the old hand pumping action I like to use good old jerkins, if there is none around because of the dry spell that made me resort to the hand pumping then mineral oil works very well and doesn’t smell like baby oil 😉

yeah it should work fine and the only reason I said “so far” is because AF pumps like to break. 😀

Thanks guys and I will use the divers grease then, and it’s pure silicone non petroleum so I should be fine 🙂

I rebuilt my AF handpump using silicone grease and I have had no problems with it so far(25-30 airforce tank fills).
