Hand pump mod from Mike Sitz….
He attached a compressor to the inlet of his hand pump
with regulator set at 70psi and filled a Condor tank with
12 strokes from 0 psi to 2,800psi….I tried 70psi and could not
push the handle down once the pressure got to
2,000psi or so….I turned the regulator down to 40psi and
was at 2,800 in no time….Not sure of the long term effects
on the pump but I can tell ya it is a huge improvement over
2-300 strokes to to fill a tank….
This is my hill pump…I unscrewed the fitting from the bottom
of the moisture filter and screwed on a standard Quick Connect…
You can screw a male fitting quick connect directly into the elbow….Perfect fit….Doesn’t even matter if it leaks a little but you
can use teflon tape if ya want to..

I’d love to have one of the FX elec. pumps. Where did you find it?
Don’t mean to hijack this thread but seems like there’s lots of interest in high pressure pumps. You guys need to find out where the DOD (defense dept) is having their auctions. Used to have a website, I forget what it was called. I gave up going, seeing the same stuff all the time. They used to have LOTS and LOTS of the old Steward Warner compressors with small diesel and gasoline motors attached; all painted olive drab. You could get them for next to nothing, no one would bid on them. You might try $20 each or somethign like that, just to get the compressor head; then go and buy a new, small chinese powerplant (knockoff of the Honda GX motors, parts are interchangeable a lot of times) for around $100; put them together. What do you think THIS guy is doing??
Anyway, it’s a great cheap way to go. The SW compressors are bulletproof as long as you keep changing the oil regularly.

Not a good idea to use a fridge compressor. It needs the freon going through it to keep it cool, if you used it in this manner it would burn up in no time.

can flow a decent amount of air and be regulated.

From the looks of things any 40# supply. Just like you use around home to fill your tires. Not more pressure (REGULATED to 40#)
My pump is on the way and the setup will get a try in a few days
Will let you know how a 13 cu in tank (Reg 2000#) and a 18″ 177 talon handle the setup. Right now it sure looks like what I am looking for………….
This was for a 6000psi nitrogen 220(i think) CF tank. Tank looks like a torpedo.
After that cost you will still need a valve/regulator… I think I found the cheapest was around 4hundred or so.
I diden’t bite on these costs.

It would be the fifth bottle other than the bulk Co2 that I would be paying for.

The good thing is you start out a 4500# not 3000# (Scuba)
The bad thing is 200# fill tank ( the big torpedo)

PLEASE DO NOT THINK THAT MORE IS BETTER AND TRY TO HOOK A HIGH PRESSURE TANK TO YOUR PUMP OR PUT ANY MORE THAN 40PSI into the inlet………………..I know it should be common sense but you never know…..I only use 40psi….Don’t get crazy…..

Can you explain further? Does nitrogen provide the punch that HPA does?
God knows I’ve got a few whiskey/cokes, rum/cokes, vodka/tonics, Guinness pints and Labatt’s Blues to trade off on the balance sheet.

Yes, they have been discontinued for a while…I thought you could maybe get some idea of how to build one by looking at the one on the link….Or maybe decide it would be too much to do….

You know I would really like to find a inexpensive , pump assembly only, with a very low output volume (that”s a cheap pump I think). Them with a little more work build a setup (electric) that could be used to fill the scuba tank.
I only say this because it sound like you could use the above idea to help with this idea.

I have an electric pump on the way…It is and FX electric water cooled compressor and is set up pretty much like you’re talking about only a little more elaborate…It uses what looks like 2 hand pumps… One long one and one short one….
