Not quite sure how this happened??? it is the only spot on the barrel. it was not chipped or scratched or anything before. now its all jacked up.
what can i do to stop this from getting worse? anyone have any advice what i should do?

Mr Ville once polished what do u use to protect the metal ? I would think that it would be more susceptible to corrosion????
I’m talking about removing that blueing, polishing the exterior.

There you go again polishing your barrel. π Hoot: ‘s about worn his out doing that.
Exactly! If it is an factory defect then back it goes. If you did something dumb yourself thereΒ΄s always the option of re-blueing it. The factory blueing leaves something to be desired anyways so i remove it and polish the barrel for that SS look. I think the SS/naked steel barrel looks much better on both wooden – and plastic stocked Bugs. I also change the scope tower/bridge screws for SS (or actually Ti) and do the same for those stock screws as well.
Thinking about it … I’m pretty sure i know what happened.
and it didn’t take long either… the pics make it look worst than it is.
could it be from moisture trapped inside the shroud? seems like its been there for awhile. when is the last time you know it was clean? from the look of it, its not just light surface rust. better take it to prof for rebluing. i had some issue with rust recently with my hw100 but luckily it was very light. i check all my guns twice a week. i assume seeing how fast they appear, if i left it for 2 3 months it would have been like yours. and i do oil my gun everytime i check them
Sure doesn’t look good. I remove the shroud and keep the barrel well oiled. I wonder if in your case the barrel was dinged from the factory?
i looked into just sending it off and getting it re blued professionally… looks to be the going rate is about 100$ for a barrel.
I just ordered some vans cold blue… I’m gonna clean it up and hit it with some of that and monitor it, if it gets any worse ill send it off to the pro’s. if it was visible all the time i would be sending off.
The dealer likely didn’t know about that but I would tell him. They can repair that professionally with a hot blue but there is the shipping cost. I had a gun that had a well scratched up lever on the bottom with nearly all of the bluing gone. Whey my buddy got done it looked like new (he owns a firearms business).
I got the gun in early March….
I don’t think this a dealers issue, i will just have to make sure i am more careful how i store it.
I would think that the factory bluing would protect it from moisture better than that…
Im gonna clean it up and try the cold blue on it.
What cold blue product is everyone using? and advice on what to get.
Hmmm,,
looks like you have moisture in your charging system , i would check the rest of the system thoroughly . especially if you were to store the gun or not inspect it for a while.
how are you filling the gun
oh and oil and steel wool , clean off all the rust then get some cold blue and reblue the barrel to keep it from rusting further
that sure looks weird, after looking at the picture further
moisture coming in or
seems either the blueing has chipped off or something caustic was dropped on the barrel as was said .
:confusedn:
if that’s a bran new gun i would definitely contact the seller
It looks like it came into contact with either something corrosive or moisture/condensation got trapped there.
Anyway to protect it from further corrosion I would coat it with a light film of Froqlube paste. I will be doing that when I get mine in a few weeks. π―
Very strange. Mine in clean. This does not look like a wear and tear issue, but that’s just my guess. Was there any damage elsewhere in the shroud?
I would contact the seller.
Awny
I think you have to claim it!! This is unacceptable for the price of crciket. π‘ π‘

It doesn’t corrode since i wipe it with Gun Oil every now and then.
You can use Car wax on it or the good old method : Leather / Boot cream. π
It’s actually very rust resistant as is. The overly thin, badly done factory ” blueing” – and i use the word with caution here – does nothing to aid in rust protection anyways…
