I’m looking to buy a new scope for my.257. Has anyone have any advice or information on Hawke Scopes? HAWKE Sidewinder 30 3-12×50 Rifle Scope, SR Pro Reticle is the one I’m looking to buy.

I’ve had the 6-24 X 56 version of that scope. I didn’t like the SR Pro reticule. There is just not enough mil dot hold over lines on that scope/reticule combination.
The Sidewinder Tactical scopes are lighter and smaller, have better glass and turrents and are at least as clear as the Sidewinder scopes PLUS they have the 20X mill dot reticule that, IMHO, works excellent!
If you shoot, muzzle, 50 yard and 100 yard shots thru a chrony and plug the numbers into Chairgun, Chairgun will give you hold over points and tell you what magnification and mil dot/half dot to use.
A coupe of weeks ago, I was down at my buddies place for some “BB Gun” shooting.
I had my R3 25 cal long Matador and a guy showed up with a 308 Savage and he was trying to hit a little piece of wood at 198 yards. It was floating in the pond and had about 1 inch sticking out of the water and it was about 3″ long. He couldn’t hit it.
When he showed up, he wasn’t interested in our BB guns.
I have Chairgun on my Iphone. I punched 198 yards into the app and looked for a hold over for 198 yards. I think that I had to turn the scope down to 8X and use the last mil dot box cross bar. I hit it on the second shot and the other 4 of us hit it also after I told them where to hold on the scope. The 308 Savage guy had to shoot the Matador also and he also hit the piece of wood.
I’m very happy with my Hawke 4026 Sidewinder tactical 6.5-20 X 42 20 X mil dot scopes. I have 4 of them. The 4026 has a few more mil dots and 1/2 mil dot boxes and it will allow you to shoot out to longer distances than the Hawke #4005 will give you.
The 4026 is $50 higher than the 4005 that you are asking about. The 4026 is very popular and I think that you should be able to find it for around the same price as the 4005, if not cheaper.
Sorry for the long post!
