Q:

Hawke Sidewinder 30 6-24x56mm with tactical reticle

Hi everyone. This is my first post and I hope you all don’t think I’m completely crazy. I recently purchased a Hawke Sidewinder 30 6-24x56mm scope with the mil dot reticle. It arrived today, and to my surprise it has the Tactical (1/2 mil dot) reticle, and the metal screw in covers. Everything else seems to be like the standard sidewinder 30. I looked online, and can’t find anyone, anywhere offering the standard 30 with the 1/2 mil dot tactical reticle for this scope size. Was this offered earlier, and I have an *older scope*, or is something wacky going on? I like it a lot – don’t get me wrong, but it is a bit unsettling, because I can’t for the life of me figure out why I got it in this configuration. Here is a picture that was on the case (not box) that it came in.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks condor! I already ordered a *buncha stuff* for the condor and have been more than happy with the communication and the quality of everything. I should have mentioned that I was joking about Wok. I ordered a wokbutt and a trigger guard from him already and they are at my sister’s place, but I have to wait a bit for her to send them on to me because I live overseas. I miscalculated a bit at my timing to pick them up when I was back in the states. He seems to have a good sense of humor, and I hope he doesn’t ban me for being such a jerk with my first post. I’ve just really enjoyed the humor here and couldn’t wait to get my first friendly insult in.

As far as the scope goes, I really don’t have *any* experience with scopes so it is difficult for me to give any real opinons on it. I can say however that it is WAY nicer and clearer than the 6-15x50mm (airforce) that I ordered with my Condor from Pyramidair. That entire thing was just an all around bad experience. Hmm.. maybe I will give a review afterall. 😛

Thanks for the nice welcome!

I think you’ve been contacted by our local Troll, he does that from time to time. Just ignore him. Wok is an administrator here and you should check out the Wok Butt , he designed and sells for the Airforce air rifles here on the TAG, it will help with your accuracy. He also sells other accessories for the Airforce Airguns.

Welcome to the Group, more good information and good and bad humor here, also.

I found your scope on one web site, but no more info. Good scope, enjoy, lots’a good comments about the 1/2 mil-dot reticle. Very good for Air guns.

Give us a review on the Optics forum, enjoy.

Sam 😆

It looks as though I was able to answer the question myself – or rather with the help of the friendly people over at Hawke. It would seem that they are “seemlessly phasing in the 20x tacticle recticle” on the sidewinder 30 series. At least that is how the person who answered my email put it. It would appear that I got such an early version of this that most places don’t offer it yet – and thus the inability to find any hint of that online (not even on the Hawke website itself).

Just for anyone who cares, the people at Hawke were really fast at answering my email and super friendly. The even helped me with a flip up cover question regarding proper size for the 6-24x56mm. Butler Creek flips ups would be size 19 for the ocular, and size 48 for the objective.

I’m sure the rest of you were about to post this information anyways after spending the night researching it all, and checking with your sources in the industry. 😉

BTW, I’ve been lurking for about a month, and wanted to say what a GREAT reference this place is. I love the mix of viewpoints and left/right political stuff. It shows that people of basically different opinions can still interact respectfully and with humor.

And to the person that Prvt messaged me about Walkonking, I don’t know – and he has never hit on me personally, nor asked those kind of questions when I’ve dealt with him. Besides if he is OK with it, and the pet donkey is ok with it, I feel it is none of my business.
