Hawke Sidewinder vs Vortex Viper Scope
Hi guys,
Looking for some new glass for the Matador. Actually I’m looking for two new scopes since I’m also picking up a new rifle next week chambered in a Remington .260 and I thought it’d be nice to have them both be the same.
I was pretty set on buying the Hawke Sidewinder 30 IR Tactical 6.5-20 x 42mm. However, when I was at Scheels today I looked through a Vortex Viper scope. Wow! I was thoroughly impressed with the clarity! It was at the level of a Zeiss Conquest but at the price of the Hawke.
Can someone (that has looked through both of these scopes) give me an educated comparison between them in terms of clarity? I’m at a disadvantage here because I’ve never looked through a Hawke but keep hearing from you guys how nice it is.
Yes. I do also realize the advantage of using Chairgun with the Hawke but that said (if money were no option), I’d buy a couple of Nightforce scopes anyways. Lol.
Thanks!

yes, i agree. i’m becoming more and more picky about my scopes.
i have almost no money limit but i like scopes that are light weight (<20 oz), have side focus/parallax, focus down to 10 yards and have a mil-dot reticle.
i’ve never been able to find a website that lets me filter scopes by any of those criteria or even have all that information readily available. i almost always have to use more than one website to find that info about any one scope.
of course, having good glass is the most important factor but that info is easy to find and, if i had a list of scopes that met my other criteria, i wouldn’t find it difficult to pick the best glass in the group.
