Q:

Heavy bullet lower fpe?

Hi there have a question, i recently bought 55gr .22cal slugs, and noticed that my condor will launch them with only about 50fpe where at the same time it can shoot a JSB Monster pellet with around 70fpe. The heavy slugs are real .22cal not like airgun pellet which is closer to .217 can this be reason for lower fpe ? The heavy 55gr slugs are really hard to put into barrel 😕
Usually i get higher fpe with heavy pellets.

Would you mind lettin me know where you got ’em?

I’d be interested in trying some tight fitting pellets.

I’ve got a trick valve that’s “slow” to open, so light and loose pellets leave the barrel before its got time to do its thing.

With heavier pellets and more friction going down the barrel, I might get enough time to give that pellet some juice.

I could but I am not form US and I bought them locally so you will probably not be interested. The same guy has the 55gr an 62gr slugs. But i dont know if they are made for black powder guns (but its .22) or LR guns.

Ask Jerry for some surefire slugs the 9 ring will give you a sore thumb. 😉

Yeah that is probably a little to tight. Mine are tight but I’m able to use my thumb.

Can you push them in with your thumb?

I can push it in with thumb only about more than half of the slug. To put it all in i need to use extra tools. The slugs have probably more lead in them than pellets as thay are not as hard. I have second barrel in .25 but somehow i found it not as accurate as .22 😡

YES, IT IS THE FRICTION from the bigger diameter bullets bro. Plain and simple.

Your valving in your condor is not set up to push the thicker bullets. Your Condor could possibly be tuned by someone to push those 55 gr to a higher FPE but, to me, its not worth it in 22. 70 is ENOUGH in that caliber for everything you would want to shoot with a 22.

More power, get a bigger caliber like a 25.

I don’t know about that. Seems like the really tight Jerry’s slugs shoot better then the one that fit easy. Same with .308. I actually got higher fpe with 118gr that fit tight over 150gr that slide right in. Can you push them in with your thumb?

true, but once the pellet is seated and sized by the barrel, all else is the same. 50-something g is a lot of slug for .22, and likely still has a ton of bearing surface.

Like moneyshot says friction can play a part .
another thing is a poor barrel seal . Normal pellets with the thin skirt expand to fit the barrel on firing . sold slugs wont expand so if they arn`t a decent fit in the barrel air will pass by them and give a power drop .

What moneyshot said. Having difficulties inserting the slugs into the breech would be a dead giveaway as well. .22 lr is actually .222 in diameter.

likely friction in the bore slowing the slug down
