Heavy Pellet Data and TT Tophat strings
Wanted to share some data on heavy pellets I have been checking out, as well as some strings with my new Tophat from TT. Chairgun has a great pellet database but does not include some of the heavy pellets I’m interested in. I did some shooting with chrono at 5′ and 105′ to calculate Ballistic Coefficient. Tethered at 2600psi I got the following BC (pellet prices listed as well):

The Piledrivers and Deadfish both delivered the most energy to the target but the Deadfish seemed to group better and were a lot cheaper. The EunJin’s did pretty well; tight fit and non as uniform but good energy and fair groupings.
I also did some shot strings using the TT Tophat with the large insert. ALl started at 2900 or 3000 psi and ran down to 2000 psi. Best grouping was 1/2″ at 35 yards by the Deadfish 32s; the Crossman Premiers tended to give 1″ groupings and the JSB and EunJin a bit wider. The Crossman pellets used very little air and had decent groupings; given how much cheaper they are they seem a decent go-to for backyard plinking. I’d probably pick the Deadfish for hunting given their consistency and downrange energy delivery, though the energy figures were about 10ftlb lower with the TT large insert than with the stock Tophat. I kept having big air-dump problems with the TT tophat without an insert so couldn’t do strings that way. Didn’t have enough Piledrivers or JSB 18s to do strings….
