Helium testing results for the extreme big bore .40
I did some testing a few weeks ago with helium but I did not want to post the results until this gun was let set for 14 days with a charge in it and checked the pressure for leaks and it still had a full charge in it after 14 days so in my book it passed the leak test. I took the gun just as it was set up for nitrogen and put helium in it First shot 4200lb fill 230 grain slug 1480 FPS giving 1118.6 FPE but the problem was the entire charge tube was almost gone after 1 shot. So I detuned the valve and fired it again same 230 bullet 4200 fill it shot an even 1200 giving it 735.5 FPE the second shot was at 980 FPS not the best results for shot count but damn this is what I will hunt with the first shot will be devestating and the second shot at 980 will be more than sufficiant for a kill shot if needed. I am convinced that with a 5000 to 5500 lb fill the shot count will give 2 full power shots(high 1200’s) and a third shot around the mid 900’s but I need to get my helium tank refilled to prove this out.

It is all a drawing for specific units where I hunt, they give out 3% of the tags to non residents, so that makes it pretty difficult to get a tag, unless your an archer, then you just buy a tag and your good to go.

They have been saying the world is going to end for years if you want to live your life on predictions than good for you. Like I said this is not for everyone just another option and if somthing can benifit us for say 10 years we may as well use it. Here is they way I view things nothing is here forever not even US so why not use the best things available at this time and it is not like this or any gun will be useless if/when helium is gone just simply use somthing else.

this whole He idea while workable is kinda stupid considering that under current usage rates our government estimates the global Helium reserve will be gone in less than ten years
already the prices have begun to skyrocket

Yes it is a hammer hitting the valve open there is no spring that returns the valve the pressure in the tube does that. I messed around with a spring on it and had problems with the spring so I took it off and it works great without a spring so my thoughts were less parts to fail was a good idea. The way that this is set up you can put spacers on the valve stem to limit the amount that the valve opens that is how I took it from only one shot at 1400 plus FPS to having two good shots with the first being 1200 if we want to dial it in to say an even 1000 fps probably get three shots. This is the reason this valve is like this the normal guy can take the gun down and decide what works best for him.

Big Bore, is the valve stem or valve a KNOCK OPEN TYPE? Pretty much a hammer weight and valve stem? Have you toyed with making the valve stem just a tad bit SHORTER to limit its opening length? Or maybe adding a tad bit more spring pressure on the valve side? Adding some type of METERED FLOW SYSTEM in the airtube would also help efficiency and limit the air flowing into the valve and out the gun. Air Airms airguns uses a metering tube to make the gun waaaay more efficient.
It makes your rifle lighter for hunting in the mountains, you attach bullets to it to even the weight out until it floats in mid air. 😆

A simple explanation
CO2, air and Helium have different sized molecules, co2 being the largest and is also why it is the slowest of the propellants, air molecules are in the middle in size compared to co2 and helium, but helium molecules are much smaller, so you get more of it thru your valve when you fire and as a result get a much higher velocity.
The draw back is that you have to have that rifle sealed up very well in the gas system because the gas wants to leak out around orings that would normally hold air back.

Using helium in a gun is like running nitrous oxide in a car…lots more power and very addicting…LOL Helium is a smaller molecule than air so more of it can pass by the valve as compared to compressed air or nitrogen…hope this helps, Allen.

Sounds facinating, but I doubt I will do it. I am not that good of a gas mechanic at this stage in the game, plus, where I hunt elk, I have to climb above my old house, about 6 or 7 hundred feet, in a 1/4 mile to get to the prime area. If I only have the means to get one shot before returning, I may be in trouble.
I do only shoot one or two shots to get an elk, but now at least I have the Pygmee bottle in my pack to refill with and get one more plus a killing shot.
Combine that with the range I shoot at and the fact I get 600 FPE now, I do not know if it would be worth the trouble for me.
But I still find what your doing facinating. And a gun that does hold Helium that long must truely be a prescise weapon.
Tof, I see out thread on this on the yellow is gone? What happened too much jibberish from us for the tidy Yellow?

The gun still works on 3 different gases. HPA, NITROGEN, HELIUM. Its a looker for sure (looks like my Corsair) and its in a pretty neat caliber .40. Lotsa new and neat stuff out and still to come out. Helium isn’t for me either but i sure would have fun with that gun in HPA and 40 cal. HELLA POWERFUL anyway you fill it up.
