Q:

Helium

Hi all I wanted to know if anyone knows how or where to get a setup for helium for a Condor tank. I have tuned Condor but would love to see how it would do with helium. It gets 905 fps with 62 grainers now but I hear helium would really boost that number. im really interested if anyone can help. also do I need to have my Condor tank completely empy before filling with helium?

Yeah I haven’t had time to go out and shoot it. I have to drive 40 miles to go shoot any distance. Work is real busy because it is the end of the year. Raining today so I spent 8 hrs on the lathe and really got know where. Made the one piece stem for the blod valve and it came out nice. Only problem is no matter what I do I can’t get the stem seal to seal. It’s not a little leak, it’s a quiet big leak. No matter how I make the seal it basically has the same leak. I’m puzzled. So I’m going to remake the stem with less clearance on the body and see. Body is .3125″ and stem is .309″.

Are we still waiting on groups at those super speeds? 😀

I got a high of 233 fpe with 9 rings. I got a high of 1203 fps with 7 and 1251 fps with 6 rings. I think most are getting around 900 fps with 6 rings

I have a booster pump that takes the helium in and will pump a tank up to 4500 psi. It is run on 100 psi of air. Booster pump is $400.00 plus shipping. Reg to run it off of a scuba tank is $275.00. Helium tank set up and hoses is around $300.00. I haven’t tried to run it off my regular air compressor yet. Helium was $42.00 for 80 cf with a loner tank. Depending on your valve and how much it has been opened up you could get 100 fpe more. I have not shot it at distance so I don’t know how it groups. Joe@hamcontact.com is where to get helium setup and hoses.

Did you really mean 100 fpe more or 100 fps more??? 100 fpe more is over double for most condors that is some serious bang for your buck!

Wow! That’s a lot of cash for a setup. I would love to see how my Condor would do on helium.

How did you get the extra psi? How much does it cost to fill? What’s Joe’s info? What was your velocity difference with the Condor valve on helium compared to air?

First you need to find out if you can get 3000 psi of helium. I can only get 2300 psi and boost it to 3000 psi. Joe Brancato has the setup for helium. I think it’s a CGA 580 setup. Yes you have to empty your tank.
