Q:

Help with my springer

I was at Sports Authority a few months ago and saw a Winchester 1000SB with 3-9X32 scope for $59.99 minus 20% ($48) so I couldn’t resist. I’ve probably put 2k rounds through it. The first few rounds were supersonic and it grouped reasonably well. Now I can hardly get a quarter-sized group at 12 meters and it’s only generating 760fps with (.177) Premiers.

Any suggestions?

OK, took it apart. The spring’s OK. The nylon seal at the end of the piston is badly marred. Is there a better option than Winchester/Daisy for that? Also, I’ll need a trigger assy. diagram, or that’s going to take some thought…

Thanks

that gun will take a maccari e3650 i believe hope that helps

Lama hit the nail on the head. Sounds like a spring issue.

I dont know off the top of my head the dimensions on that spring…. I may have one that will work.

If you choose to replace on your own, I can talk you through how to.

Does it feel any different when you cock it now that when it was new? I don’t know much about springers, but my cfx had a broken mainspring and it would when I cocked it, it would click and feel weird as the spring slid along the metal. It would shoot though, but it was a lot like yours. Slow and inaccurate.

Worth a look? 😕

Rob should know. He knows everything springer. 😀

Actually, yes… it doesn’t click but there is an odd “abrading” feel now. Seems obvious that it’s related now that you point it out 😕

Everything seems as solid and buttoned down as the day I bought it, which is remarkable given that it kicks like a mule. I was hoping for a miracle cure that would mean not having to tear it down 🙂

I have a Condor, but this is good practice as it has a 9lb trigger pull and is very hold-sensitive. Used to be accurate and fairly powerful too… now it’s neither.

I have a 1000x, it’s the gun that got me back into pellet guns. 😉 The trigger pull was crap, but after much cleaning up, polishing, and trial and error, i got it to shoot decent. I second checking the seals, sounds like that may be your problem, also as previously stated, check all the fasteners, these gun create some powerful vibrations. As a side note, never leave the gun cocked for an extended period of time, as this will cause premature spring wear, and reduce FPS. These guns are a low cost, hard to shoot, overpowered piece of work, and i think they eat themselves after a while. Mine killed two scopes in short order. 😯

Way to encourage this guy in fixing his gun 🙄 My friend has a 1000SB and for $48, they are a pretty darn good gun. After a little polishing and tar, I was hitting cans at 60+yds.

Now, to address your problem. A new spring and seal would be nice, as well as checking the breech seal (O-Ring surrounding the loading port) for damage/leaks.

Have you cleaned the barrel:

You can try this: Tighten all the stock bolts including the trigger guard. They will be loose by now. You may need to remove the stock and tighten all the action screws, including the barrel hinge bolt. Replace the breech o-ring ( the one on the barrel when broke open.)

And put a couple of drops of chamber lube in to the air port to lube the piston seal.

use this chamber lube only and absolutely no more than 2 two drops only?

RWS makes a chamber lube, but i can’t find it!

Break the barrel and check for hinge wobble and close the barrel and check to see if it locks tight, no side to side wobble?

Sam

😆

Heck, that gun only cost you $.024 per shot…. Not bad…

You got your money worth now go and get a real rifle. No pun intended.

x2

replace the seal on the piston it sounds like it is no good dropping that many FPS
