Help with Talondor Velocity Inconsistencies. …PLEASE

I have got my Talondor together and started testing with JSB Kings. It is accurate when the velocity is close together but I am having some velocity inconsistencies. It shoots in the high 800fps to low 900fps range. The velocity is exactly where I want to be but I get a 700fps shot every 5 or so shots in a 10 shot string. I have disassembled it and polished the inside of the frame, hammer, barrel where everything rides and used some dry graphite as lube. As well as disassembly of the valve and polished all of those parts. I have Tony’s QCTH and am using the large restricter. I have varied the fill pressure on different strings. Problem still there. What could this be ? I have shot about 500 pellets in between trying this and that to no avail. WTF ? PLEASE HELP !!!

OK Guys,
The Talondor has spread its wings and is flying high now. I purchased a new TH from AF. When it got here I set the TH .984 measured from the bottom of the TH to the bottom of the valve stem and red loctited the TH threads and the set screws. Let it dry for 2 days and installed it into the valve. I put a .025 nylon washer and a 1/16 thick poly oring under the TH. Using JSB MKII pellets, PW – 6, 2800psi fill. I got 30 shots at 2% with an ES of 17fps. Average of 848. Very close to my targeted velocity of 850fps. It is making just over 54fpe and shooting like a laser at 30 yards. This morning I sighted it in and after sight in shot 5 different groups and all were under .200. I had some clipping issues that I fixed where the 2 end baffles had been hit. It broke out the top of the baffles so I cut some thick plastic and filed it to slip inside the baffles and glued in place with Plastic Weld epoxy. I also added some thick felt to the inside of the baffles and end cap. It is now back to being backyard acceptable. It has been a very frustrating process but it was worth it and it is all good now. The groundhogs are in serious trouble later this week. :8:

This morning I decided that I hadn’t reached my targeted velocity of 850. Soooo, I went back out and adjusted the PW to 9 and played with the fill pressure. Here is what got.
.25 Talondor 18″ barrel
TH – AF Factory – gap .120 with .03 nylon washer & 1/16 thick oring under TH
PW – 9
3000psi fill
39 shots at 2.25%
ES – 18.25
SD – 4.79
FPE – 51.1
AVG VEL – 823.0
HIGH – 831.6
LOW – 813.1
End pressure 2400psi
Not 850 but close enough. I did notice that around 835-840 the gun got a lot louder. So I am going to leave it where it is.
I spoke with Tony last night and I am sending back this QCTH and he is sending me a replacement. I will try it and post the results. I hope it works and I just received a bad one the first time. I really like the idea of the 1 piece QCTH and hope the replacement is a good one.

OK guys, after being totally pissed off about this issue yesterday, Olly shared his finding with me. He removed the TTQCTH and used the AF TH and had some success. So I did the same this morning. I put the AF TH in and placed a .03 nylon washer and a 1/16 thick oring behind it. Put the PW on 8. I shot a string with JSB MKII 33.95gr. It was like a miracle happened. 35 shots from a 2700psi fill with an ES of 20.8. All shots were within 3% at an average of 806.7. Upon looking at the TTQCTH I didn’t notice anything abnormal or bent. I had tried it with the different restrictors and nothing fixed the velocity drops until I removed it and went with the AF TH. With that said I am not slamming Tony or his products. I am simply stating fact. I don’t know if his QCTH was defective or not, but the rifle did definitely change for the better after removing it. I am now curious as to why his QCTH caused this issue and would like to exchange it for another to see if I received a bad one. I believe that Olly is in the same boat. Just funny that we both had the same issue with the same part. Tony give me a call at 304-582-4970 so we can discuss this further.
Well the new parts AF sent me made no difference. I am still getting the velocity drops of 50 – 150fps randomly. I tried different fill pressures, I tried an oring and a nylon washer under the TH, I tried the PW from 5 – 8 and still the same problems. I called AF and they want me to send it to them on my dime and pay them to fix it. Funny thing they didn’t mention that last week when they sent the parts free of charge. They said the aftermarket TTQCTH could be the issue and now my gun is out of warranty. My gun is a 2015. Anyways, I guess I will send it to them. I should have stayed with my Mrod and never messed with AF. COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED and ready to wrap it around a fence post.

I am waiting on parts now. This morning I emptied my tank and got my valve loose so I am ready when the parts get here. They were shipped yesterday morning so should be here any day. I will let you know how it goes.
Today I went back to basics. I stripped the gun down to the bare frame and deburred and repolished as it were new to me.
There were a few spots around the trigger and safety slots that required attention but on the whole it was in good shape and no sign serious snag.
Any how I re-polished the frame, the breech end of the barrel, and the trigger parts while they were out, and put it back together. Unfortunately I only had Gamo pellets at hand and the sting I shot showed no improvement 😥 I’ll run through a string tomorrow when I get some JSBs but I’m not expecting any great change

Dude, I have to have one of those patches. I read that post and laughed my ass off. Does kinda remind me of someone I know. Yeah, the results were good all the way around.
Tony is definitely a class act and I appreciate his understanding during this cluster of problems. I am just glad to actually be shooting stuff with this gun instead of chasing problems.
