Q:

HHHMMMMMMM

Ok now here is the deal.

Just put the spinlock with a hi-flow on my talonss and that think is really loud. I did a 18″ barrel on 2 weeks ago. Currently I have an R&L shroud on it. with the standard tank on max it is still back yard friendly. Now with the high-flow on pw on 4 it is still crazy loud.

My talonP with a 12″ barrel and the direct flow has a talon tunes shroud and it is still not back yard friendly also.

What LDC or shroud can I use now to make these 2 beast back yard friendly. I need to be able to shoot coyotes with Jerry’s slugs doing ADC work and don’t need everyone looking.

Yep. Haven’t heard Tony’s but I am sure it is very quiet.
His rep. speaks volumes 😉
Air Hog is a high quality unit and has it nailed as well. When I first put it on I wasn’t sure my gun fired.
If Tony’s is any quieter you will be getting near negative sound.
We are fortunate to have quite a few high quality people pursuing our interests . If they can make a living or money at it more power to them.

I have one of Tony’s shrouds and the only sound it’s making is the hammer falling. The impact of the pellet is tons louder than the firing cycle.

Thank you Lurker. I just need to get a choreograph now.

“Chronograph” If you try to order a choreograph, you might get a queer knocking on your door.

Just saying….

Just for comparison, I had a Condor shooting the JSB Monsters at 1040 fps, with Air Hog shroud and it was the quietest PCP I’ve experienced.
Much quieter than my FX Royale in .22.

If a large enough, and properly baffled shroud, is used, you can quiet the Barrett. 50 BMG.

The key is to find someone who knows what their doing with a specific pcp.

PAG is my go-to expert on Daystate rifles and he’s been making these rascals since about 2007, so he’s got it nailed. AF has Tony!

Jesse,

someone posted info on coefficient of drag that was very interesting .
It shows steep rise in drag beginning around 0.85 the speed of sound. That equates to speeds above 950 FPS as requiring in increasingly greater energy (PSI) for additional gain.

So far with a TT shrouded AAA .25 Condor. I notice a very noticeable noise increase above 1050 FPS. So, if you tune down below that noise you will most likely improve your groups and waste less air.

If you are shooting a slug triple the size of the 25gr JSB, and at the same speed, you are using a hell of a lot more air pressure on the big slug and the report will be louder.

With fps comes noise. My .25 is really quiet at 960 fps with .25 JSB’s. Change the tank and shoot 7 rings (70.5 gr) at 980 fps and it gets louder.

Thank you guys. My elavation is only about 350 so fairly low. I have some black mombas I will try when I get home from work. I know last night I had to turn my power wheel down to 2 to get it quiet again.

I must really be missing some thing here. I thought you hit sonic at around 1100 fps. If i am not mistaken I thought the last time i did shoot the talonss with stock tank and a 12″ barrel I was shooting around 650 fps. I added the 18″ barrel and a high flow. I could be wrong but I doubt that the 25gr .25 jsb is reaching the 1100fps mark.

With a standard valve, you can easily gain 50fps per inch of barrel addition. If you added 6″ of barrel, that’s 300fps added to your base fps with a 12″ barrel and you are pushing over 950 fps. Add a “hot” valve and supersonic/trans-sonic you go! Either way, sound is going to get loud fast at those speeds. Especially if you are at a higher altitude.

Simple solution, load two 25gr pellets and try a shot. At 50grs, sound should drop a lot. If that works, quit shooting light 25gr pellets. Get your pellet weight up, which slows down the fps, while raising your foot pounds of energy, and dropping your sound levels a lot.

PM me if that works. I’ve got a trick or two that can help.

I guarantee you the sound can be reduced to near nothing… If subsonic, but the right sized shroud, and proper weight pellet slug, is essential!

1100fps with a condor valve is pretty easy to hit with JSBs.
I go supersonic at my elevation right around 1070fps.

Don’t underestimate that valve. 😉

At what velocity do the pellets go super sonic? The thing that I don’t understand is the talonss stock tank on had power and still quiet. Just changing to the hi flow pw on 4-5 and super loud. Did the velocity change that much?
