High flow valve I made this week
Hey guys, Im going down the regulated route and decided that my modified talon valve wouldnt be able to dump the space of regulated air quickly enough so I decided to make a valve.
I had some stainless steel lying around and decided to give my little chinese lathe a workout. I roughed out the shape and bored out all of the internals. However I cant cut threads on my lathe and am about to order some dies for the threads.
Today I made the valve stem from another piece of stainless i had. The stem where the ports are cut is 10mm and there are 3 5mm ports.
Hopefully this should give me a good velocity with my regulated tank.
Oh and I worked out today that my barrel had just over 10cc volume and have designed in 20cc of regulated volume which should give me less of a pressure drop and would also be suitable if I wanted to get a 24″ barrel. Do you think this is okay?

Yes i believe they are 7/8-14 tpi
Being able to cut both metric and imperial is a major plus because the world cant decide on what to use.
My little lathe hasnt got the power to cut threads, eventhough it has all of the stuff for it, it just boggs down and stops with even the lightest of cuts. Oh well…
Im ordering the aluminium for the valve to bottle adapter which will also be holding the regulated volume of air for the shot. I think a wall thickness of 8mm is easily sufficient to hold the 2000 psi regulated air.

Let’s get something straight here, copying is NOT designing so credit where credit due you are copying a Blodnob valve.
If your lathe can turn metal it can cut threads as threading is the easiest cut a machine will make. Perhaps you are getting too agressive. Use the compound set at 29 degrees and only make passes of 0.005″ each time tapering off to 0.002 then 0.001″ per pass at the final cuts.
You ‘think’ a wall thickness of 8mm is good enough? that is one bloody big red flag Dave! you need to engineer it and have a safety factor built in.
