Hill Pump Problems…again.
So now it doesn’t want to let me pull up on the pump so I can pump downward and if I let go it pulls itself down.
Anyone got any ideas?

I had the same problem you have, but with the airforce pump. Ir is most likely the very inner bottom O-ring that went bad. Read this. http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2808&highlight=airforce+pump
Now I’m officially stumped and pissed.
I took it completely apart, checked every o-ring and all fittings and I cannot see anything that would make it act like this. I even changed an o-ring on the central npt pipe that had a nick in it.
Still doesn’t want to let me pull it up and once I get to 2000psi it only functions normally every other stroke while STILL resisting the “up pull”.
I checked the brass inlet thing, I checked the hose connection and I checked the central section and I can see nothing.
I just don’t understand what would make it do this.
Yes, it does have a dry pack system.
I just rebuilt this last week and now this. Ugh.
As I said earlier, it pumps fine till about 1000psi and then it’s really hard to bring up to pump and the down stroke only feels right half the time. Eventually it’s just too hard to pull up and I’m not about to force it.
I’ll check the inlet tonight.

You may have some leaking seals, BUT, if you dont FULLY compress the Hill in the downward cycle you dont move all the high pressure air from one stage of the pump to the next. This then pushes on the valves in the pump and wont allow you to pull the pump all the way back up.
The final, high pressure stage of the hill pump is a very short stroke all the way at the bottom end of the downward stroke. Make sure you do a full stroke, you will feel the pump bottom out. If it feels mushy at the bottom like your hitting a spring then your not doing it right. After you bottom out you should be able to release the handle and it should stay there and not push itself back up. If it comes up fast on its own then you havent compressed it all the way and the air is still stuck in the pump. If it comes back very slowly and not very far then you may have a very small seal leak. Some of that is acceptable.
Just stripped down the Hills pump to install my dry-pack. Only thing i can think of is inlet housing? Check internal filter?? Have you got the dry-pack on? If pump returns when you let go then the seals must be ok,must be blockage on inlet side.
Swear at it loudly and see if that helps?

The central o-ring was a smidge deformed but what it really needed was a touch of Lube!~!~
I too, used a tried and true paintball lube….automotive transmission fluid. The red stuff. Bingo! Just like new again.
