Hold-over/under, is this right?
Take a rifle and scope, where the distance between the scope and rifle’s centre-lines is 3″.
Zero at 40yds.
If you aim at a target one foot in front do you hold the reticle approx 3″ above the target to hit it?
At 20yds, would you hold the reticle 1.5″ above the target to hit it?
At 60yds would you hold the reticle 1.5″ under the target to hit it? Assuming a perfectly flat trajectory of course.

Assuming the perfectly flat trajectory theory, you are correct.
Most mil dot scopes need to be set at 10x to get correct range estimates.
Cheers mate. The pellet database doesn’t work for me unfortunately (critical error on their page).
Does anyone know at what zoom the Nighteater (Nikko-Stirling) range needs the zoom set at for the correct mildot-scale? Most seem to go with full zoom, but I’ve seen various other figures bandied about.

Thanks Lama. I tried that a couple of weeks ago and nearly spazzed when I saw the graphs. 😆 I’ve just re-installed it and I think I’ve got the hang of it now. The visualisation extra is excellent. 😀
The easiest way to check for how much to hold over or under is to download chairgun2 and put in the data for your gun. It will show you a trajectory chart over a horizontal line (line of sight), and it will tell you how much hold over/under you need.

Aye, that was one of the figures I came across. Looks like I’ll have to take a 12″-ruler out into the yard and have a play. The info isn’t even on the Nikko website.
