Q:

Hold Surprisingly Affects Accuracy

My 25 Vulcan has always been more capable than me in terms of accuracy…out to 30 or so yards, from a good rest, it will shoot a single ragged hole. Today I was target shooting at 20 yards and it seemed to be incapable of the single holes that have been accustomed to…shooting high, then low, then left, then center.

Checked a magazine worth through the crony and all 920 fps +\- 6. Then reshot and was back to dead on. I then realized that I had been holding the Vulcan by pressing down on the top of the shroud into my shot bags for a secure rest. Apparently this pressure was enough to randomly open the shot groupings by 1/2″ or more. Anyone else experienced this with the Vulcan or another PCP?

Even though had to take some crap for not knowing…this is a valuable learning for me. Have shot pistols most of my life and just never had much interest in long bores other than shotguns and now air rifles. Routinely dispatch ground squirrels around my property using shooting sticks as a rest and I am sure that have rested on the barrel at times…that explains all of my misses 😳

Everyone here is getting their share of crap so no biggie. 😉

No big deal AJ. I’ve shot all 3 food groups…………….rifle, pistol and shotgun. At one time in my life I shot on the Army Rifle and Pistol team. Now I’m like a used rubber, old and worn out. But, we as in Ville and others on here, the list is to long, have some valuable info to pass on. I once was a skeet and trap Alcoholic then got into IPSA and held a Master Classification in pistol shooting. Now into PCP’s.

That’s a fact. It’s actually the “A” on the shooting ABC. 🙂
Then again : Zonksters 40x shoots equally ill whether it has a barrel to push on or no barrel at all. Zonk is usually high as a Kite when he’s doing his shooting. Hoot , that wiley Arkansanian Czar , sends him buttloads of those well known ( among Hippies ) “Toad Suck one-way trip” mushrooms that grow plentiful on the flushing meadows surrounding Toad Suck.
Zonk’s known for his immaculate shooting style , the one he’s holding the Gun sideways and when he yanks the trigger he talks in tongue and sings ” glory, glory hallelujah “.
The style suits him though since he seldom misses. Don’t ask me how that’s even possible ..

:twak: That’ll teach you AJ……….NEVER,NEVER,NEVER rest a barrel on anything, it’ll change your POI. Even my heavy barrel Rem 40X, if barrel is resting on anything it’ll change POI.

It probably is the only rifle you own that short.
Nevertheless : Holding / pushing/ pulling a barrel , whether a powderburner or an airgun is a big no-no. 🙂

Haven’t done much PB rifle shooting in my time and honestly didn’t realize that hand pressure could effect a steel barrel. The Vulcan is the only rifle I have that would cause me to hold in that manner.

AJ, any time you press down or push up on the shroud it’s going to change POI. Same with a PB you must rest the gun on the stock not the barrel, as it will also change POI.

+ 1 ! Dóh … You truly should´ve known AJ .. :butkick:
