hollow points

When do hollow point bullets and/or pellets expand is it on contact or in flight i think bullets partialy expand in flight depending on speed and pellets expand on contact

Back when I used to swage 22 HP out of fired 22 rim fire cases, occaisionaly I would have one open up in flight, but all you get is a small gray puff, and not impact at the target.

But to do this, you have to have fragile hollowpoints designed for moderate velocity and drive them at a higher velocity than they were designed for, the Corbin rim fire bullets met that criteria.

Airguns would never come close to doing this.
