Q:

Home made condor stock

I used pine for its light weight propertys and it’s resinous so it doesnt like water I have started to treat it with tru oil and am wondering If you guy may know if a shellac finish will harden the stock a bit I up for any suggestion on a hard outer coat other than that it’s light weight and really gives the frame some regidity http://i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/afc25longrangetn/418645D6-73A3-49E8-A017-2248E972574A-249-0000003CC2254308.jpg

I sand it completely smooth then wet it with a damp rag to bring up the wickers. Sand it with 600 grit wet & dry paper. Now mix epoxy with laquer thinner & sand in with 200 grit wet & dry paper. Wipe it cross grain immediatly & let cure. Repeat using 1 step finer paper until you get to 600 grit. The result will be a satin smooth nearly unscratchable finish. You can then checker it or use scate board tape for the grip. I used this finish on a 30-06 30 years ago & it is still holding up. It takes a while but well worth it. Gene
