Homebuilt Airgun
New Project:
9MM airgun. 17 inch barrel. Homebuilt valve. 22 cubic inch, 2 inch diameter tank.
I have 1.25 inch Aluminum tubing ordered.
Got 300 lead balls ordered.
Got AutoCad drawings made up.
Got the breach (with “O” rings) built.
Got the barrel turned to size. Cut very thin to be light weight.
Got a hammer built.
Got a sear built.
Look at the size of that bore!

Mark, I am with Shadoh on the trigger being what appears to be quite far forward. I prefer a gun that allows the scope bell to be right above the center of my right hand. It looks like you may want to do a mock up even a cardboard cutout to see how it fits you.
I do like the simplicity of the two piece trigger. I would relocate the safety to underneath the sear to prevent its movement seperate from the trigger. Likely in easy reach of your thumb to flick it off.

You might want to try what Marv did when he was making his trigger and just make a mock up block to try out stuff before you do any machining. That way if it doesnt work you havent spent time and possibly ruined a perfectly good rifle frame you toiled over.
Real simple, just get a block of metal and drill the holes in it, mount trigger parts and spring to it to get a feel for its function, then you can fine tune just by drilling some new holes, might end up like swiss cheese, but better some scrap that the actual frame.

I was looking for comment on that. Never built a trigger before. Trigger was the hardest thing to figure out.
Airforce has 3 moving elements in there trigger mechanism, the third element just reverses the movement so when you pull the trigger back it fires.
This one is laied out ” mirror image” so the third element is not required. Not shown on the drawing are a “set” adjusting screw and all the springs.
I think I can adjust the trigger pull by adjusting the engagement angle of the sear to the hammer – right now it is 45 degrees. That should give 70 percent of the main spring force downward on the trigger.
Never done a trigger before – hope it turns out ok.
Also the safety is not self setting. It will have a spring, ball, and detent to click it on and off.
The balance looks ok to me. The 2 inch tank is very light compaired to a standard tank. The barrel weighs about what a 12″ talon barrel weighs in spite of being 9MM and longer. Hope its not too far forward??

I will build the trigger tomorrow.
Much simpler trigger mech and safety. Is it going to move it forward to much or is your tank smaller?
