Q:

Homebuilt Tank

Hello guys.

I want to make a high pressure tank for my 2260 to convert it into a PCP. I think it won’t be working over 2000-2500psi but I am a bit worried because I haven’t made a high pressure tank before. Have you?

It’s gonna have a 23mm outside diameter.
What material should I use? I have been told to use precision tube. Is that correct? How thick should it be?
Should I consider something about threads etc?

Should I hydro-test it before use it? And where can I do that?

Thanks a lot 8)

Not sure if this is relavent but i got some stainless high pressure tube a while back at 1.25″OD. As it was sold to me as hp tube a certificate was available to prove the spec of the material, ie its burst and operating pressures.
If you buy from a steel stockholder it should be able to supply you with the spec sheet of the tube.
Hope this helps, Sean.

Personally, I’ve got no experience with dive shops, but from what I do know, I can’t imagine there are many who’d be dumb enough to fill a homemade tank… at least here in the US.

I’m not knocking your urge to create, that’s always a good thing… but they don’t call them “high pressure” tanks for nothing.

Hello Voltar.
I am George from Greece and I have posted before. 8)
My equipment doesn’t exist at the moment. Next month I’ll own an Alfa lathe, the AL 300 x 180 Variable Speed model.

What do you think about that? Is it a good lathe?

Where should I go to have my assembly hydro tested? Dive shops do that?

Welcome, please, who are you and who are you on other forums?

you want 7/8″ x 0.065″ wall 4130 DOM tubing.
properly anchor teh valve and fill system
Hydro test the assembly to 150% working pressure

What equipment do you have access to and know how to operate?

Good luck
Be safe
Walter….
BTW, I’ve built a few 🙂
