This all sounds like a good way to get to know your local ATF field agents on a first name basis……so I don’t think I’m gonna try any of this cause I’m too pretty to go to the pen…

Bought some blackpowder the other day and had to fill out a local fire form… 😯 There was a place to declare if it was going to be used for fireworks… 😯 Seriously??? WTF, don’t the instructions say not to do that… Fireworks are not my deal, I like my explosions contained and my projectiles going in one direction, towards a target and at the range… 😯

In CA a flare gun can put you in jail if you shoot it off with in city limits or if you are not in danger… 😯
Tracer and explosive ammunition is OFF limits… This would probably fall under that category even though it is an air rifle… 😯
If you have a .22 or bigger a 9 1/2 magnum rifle primer on the tip is the best bet. Wouldn’t try it with a shroud though. Nevermind, see you have .177.
Depends where your from. For example in the UK mainland firing explosive rounds from an airrifle would make it a section 5 firearm. That puts it in the same category as mini guns, rocket launchers and intercontinental ballistic missiles. So illegal unless you have special permission from the home office such as the army and a few weapons companies do. You would have to look up your local county / state regulations.
I know the powder isn’t used as a propellant… but would this be deemed a firearm in law?

have not tried that, but it should work. I use to shoot strike any where matches with tin foil over the head of them, for the same effect when I was a kid.
Now I am older and work as a fireman. In the name of training, I still try to make things explode and catch fire :lol:. Match heads and hollow points might be my next training experiment.

Yes, you are correct about getting to know the ATF.
But this does bring back memories of my misplaced youth, 30 years ago, I bought a kit to make.224 bullets from Dave Corbin in White City, Oregon. Part of the kit was a rimfire jacket maker, it made the jackets from fired rimfire ammo. Neat kit, I sold it when 224. bullets became much cheaper.
Now I have to tell you up front this was 30 years ago and the Statute of Limitations is well past.
Do not try to repeat this process at home, you will put your eye out and be the one eyed bitch to some guy in a cell.
I removed the compound from large rifle primers, I first pried off the anvil, then with gloves on and safety glasses donned, I took a needle and scraped that compound out of maybe three or four primers.
I then put it into one of the jackets that I had partialy formed to a point enough to retain an opening that I could get the compound into. This also kept the diameter of the jacket undersized.
The reason I wanted it undersized was so I could put it into the chamber of my brand new Ruger silenced 22 that I had recently purchased and registered with ATF. Then I put a case with the powder but minus the pulled 22 slug behind it into the chamber.
If somebody had sneaked up behind me when I was doing all this and farted I would have had a stroke for sure.
I went out into the garage and fired it at a piece of oak firewood, there was a puumff followed by a cantulope sized fireball against that peice of firewood. I repeated this nerve wracking process about three or four times, but on the last effort it did not make it out of the silencer before it blew up. I was using rolled up donuts of window screen between the baffles and the spacers, it really made a mess of things.
Like I said that was 30 years ago, and it was too dangerous, and too illegal to perform again.
Did I mention stupid?
