Honest Input (help a fellow airgunner out)
Hello,
I’m tired of waivering on this choice:
1. Buy a talon ss .22
2. Buy an air arms s510 carbine (multishot) .22
Yes, there is a major price difference, but I would be putting a maddog stock on the talon from R&L (the edgun looking stock $300), which puts me at basically the same cash outlay. I currently have an AA S500 full length (single shot .22), which is absolutely incredible. I can get 1″ groups with it at 100yards with little effort at 75% power 870-900 fps. It is very quiet, probably quiter than a stock SS even when it’s on full power pushing JSB 18 grainers at 930-940 fps.
The reason I’m even going for another one is to have something shorter and lighter. There isn’t much difference in length or weight S510 carbine vs. Talon ss (talon will weigh more once maddog stock is put on.)
I think the Talon looks simply AWESOME with the maddog stock, not so good out of the box though…..sorry. However, looks are really insignificant if the accuracy isnt there. I’m spoiled with my AA. I can absolutely nail anything I aim at.
Of course it is ultimately my decision, but what I would need out of the talon ss is for it to at least be able to consistently make 1″ groups out to 70-75 yards—in addition to being light and field handy, which I already know it is. Soooooooooo, I guess I’m asking if the accuracy is truly there with the talon. I know it would be out of the box with the s510.
Given a choice what would you do? I know this an AF forum and I expect some bias 😆

Dude, go for it. Sleek, stealthy, smart, and they look awesome to boot. That’s what an AF rifle should look like :thumb:

There is no comparison as far as the accuracy with the AA vrs the SS, the AA is far more accurate, easier to adjust power and does not need to be messed with or adjusted to keep it going.

Thank you. I believe that’s what my eyes needed to hear. I do think I was considering the SS on it’s cool (tactical) looks. It amazes me how two different rifles with the LW barrel can have such different results. Different type LW barrel??
It is an awesome gun and buying a Talon simply on looks should never be done. It is a gun that has certain attribute other guns do not have such as being a take down rifle, interchange barrels and can give lots of power. If you do not need these features then there are better guns out there and the 510 is one of them.
I own a 410 and it is simply a wonderful piece of engineering.
BTW putting a big wood stock that takes away the main feature of the Talon being a take down gun is like welding a hard top on a convertible because you like look of a hard top 😀
Thanks for the input. As far as the take down attributes possible from the AirForce, it is the least in my considerations. (Hope that didn’t sound too “matter of fact”). I simply love the look of the rifle in the maddog stock. Would get an edgun matador if possible, but not.

i have shot a air arms if u ask ur comparing two different categories a talon is super versitile and can be modded and messed with (power from 400 to 1000 fps in .177) and there as accurate as any high ebd airgun… while air arms are high quality u just cant mod them really allthough they are multi shot go for follow up shots… but then with a talons power in .25 and even .22… do u really need a follow up shot and plus talons are short and light while air arms arnt but airarms have good quality…. idk its all about personal prefference….ur choice… but consider wat i said about the stocks..

yeah there good… just one prob. there alittle exspensive for the moment… but eventually ill get one..
