Q:

Hoot she is driving tacks :)

I was in a huge rush this morning to beat the predicted wind of 10-15 mph out of the north .. I used one target and started with FTS’ .. rifle didn’t like those at all and scattered them about the target.

Switched to JSB’s and even though they fit the bore a little loosely the first shot went just below the paper so I cranked up the elevation on the V-16 about a dozen or so clicks and the next pellet landed right next to the red dot on the target. Next 2 consecutive shots just made that hole a little bigger and your rifle has that first ever 1/4 inch group at 40 yards that I was telling you it was capable of 😀

I was shooting off of my Caldwell Fire Control Rest and the winds were dead calm … the wind is kicking up now so I got done just in time.

could you take the ‘after’ pic so we can see the difference? same distance and focus as the ‘before’ pic?

Walter….

I don’t know how to do it .. I’ll try again .. the digital camera it’s a Nikon doesn’t want to lock onto the crown now because of the shiny finish I guess. I had to back off from the barrel and aim the camera from a little below the barrel in order to get the pic I did.

This camera has all kinds of manual settings but I don’t know how to use them.

Walter….

Lapping the bore .. first pic is of the first pass thru the barrel with compound. Second patch is the 40th … it took over 50 to straighten this barrel out and about 2 hours of carefully pushing them thru.

Last one barrel all polished up ready for testing.

.

Before and After on the crown job … at the 2 o’clock position in the first pick you’ll notice one heck of a gash leading down into the rifling.

Then after almost 3 hours of ever so carefully working out that mess we see the results 🙂

LMAO he better take GOOD care of this shooting iron from now on !

Hoot I’ll send you some of the JSB’s out of this tin I have so you can repeat the test. My first impression of your barrel is that it is going to like a LITE amount of lube on the pellets and not a heavy coating.

My pet squirrel rifle wants all the Krytech wax I will give it so I use 25 drops per 500 pellets.

For yours and those Kodiaks you have coming split the tin in half .. save half for later .. and just lube up the first half with 3 drops of the Krytech and no more. You can always add more later as the testing progresses.

And I agree with WOK about testing CPH’s in this barrel too 🙂

My Talon loves Crosman Premieres and kodiaks as well as JSB’s.

If I am shooting in the backyard a tin of Miesterkuglen works well also.

Nice save Pulaskis. Now as long as Hoot stops using his barrel as a walking stick everything should be better 😉

Nice work & shooting! 1/4″ @ 40 yards is pretty sweet, seems the lapping and crown job really paid off.

I paid the man for a trigger adjustment, and he found a dozen reasons why my Talon was not shooting well. He’s corrected all of that, and at a very fair price I might add, and has turned my rifle into a tack driver. 😯

He is also doing a wood grip and forearm for me. When it arrives, I’ll post pictures.

This guy needs to be on the “Good Guy” list for reliability and quality.

More later….

Bore on the barrel was hand lapped and an awful looking crown job that looked like someone had beat it on concrete was properly polished out and made center and square. The barrel work really paid off 😀

These pellets are straight from the can not weighed out .. but they are lubricated with Krytech. I would stick with the plan of using the Kodiaks until it is proven to us (I don’t have any in .22 on hand) that it won’t shoot them well … then go to the JSB’s for sure.

Here’s the complete target showing how badly it was tossing about those FTS’s …
