Q:

How accurate are BB Guns?

I have no experience with BB guns and was wondering what is the best case scenario with BB grouping?

I bought a POS Daisy 901 with BSA 4x scope. From a supported position at 60’ about half the shots land on a 8 X 11” paper. I was hoping for better or is this unrealistic?

Any suggestions for a good/cheap BB/.177 rifle would be appreciated. Thanx

LOL! 😈 You should take some pictures for a moment like that!

That sound makes me smile every time I think about it. A couple time when the bird would be on the power line, the shot was so sudden and perfect that the bird would simply “tip over” and be hanging upside down from the wire dead for 5 minutes or so before its grip on the wire relaxed and let it fall to the ground. 😈 😈 😈

The sound of its brain exploding! 😈

Wore out a couple crossman 66 pumpmasters in my younger years and more than a fair share of blackbirds and sparrows fell from the trees or the powerline that ran over our vegetable garden. Pretty accurate from 15-20 yds with the occasional 25-30yd hit. Fun gun for sure and lots of fond memories but hard to go back to hitting 3 of 5 tin cans at 20 yds when the accuracy I am now accustomed to is 4 of 5 bottle caps at 35+ yds or 5/8″ paintballs at 25yds every time if I do my part.

We had some little birds about half the size of a house sparrow which would come into our garden in flocks of 5-15 and destroy our hard work and the crossman 66/4x scope combo would keep them quite at bay. Regular kills out to 15yds or so. Always knew when I got a headshot and not body as it made a POP vs a SMACK sound.

Walmart has been clearancing out their Gamo S1 rifles and a Crosman one I can’t recall what it was though. Been going for around $89.00-$79.00 last I saw in MN.

Only BB gun I have ever owned is a Red Ryder 😳 It couldn’t hit the ground if i shot it strait up in the air.

I’ll second that!!! 😆 😆 😆

Thanks for the link Lama, I got a better idea of reality now. Knowing nothing about BB guns I was hoping for 2~3” groups at 50~60’ But if BB competitions are at 16’, that says a lot about BB performance. 240fps would be worthless in outdoor conditions.

Guess I’ll take it back and exchange it for a Quest 1000 or something in that order. I’m basically look for a low end air gun that shoots fairly well out to ~75’ for show and tell purposes if the local heat comes knocking.

240 fps!!! 😯

Gaylord just did a review of a target bb gun. Supposed to be the most accurate bb gun in the world. Only a 10 meter gun though, so probably not good out much farther.
