How are .25 Predator Polymags flying in your R3M Standard?
Hi guys,
I’m having fun with my .25 standard however, and it may be too new to tell, but polymags are not flying very well in this gun. Kings appear fine and are flying about 933 fps. I’m wondering if any of you are getting reasonable accuracy out to 50 yards? I’m talking at least 1″ at 50. I will say this much. The pellet has a hard time fitting through the magazine and it resizes the skirt a bit. Is this normal? Has anyone had to polish the bore in their mags a bit?

I tried some H&N hunter Extremes and they had a consistant spiral if that makes any sense. They hit pretty good on the 50 yard mark but as I watch through the camera I could see the spiral. I would say 1”+ groups. The Predators had zero spiral from what I could see. Most shot very good but it seemed like every 4th or 5th would go a little out? It’s too bad because some were on Par with kings. I was actually getting hits at 100 yards on my squirrel spinner with predators. Im pretty comfortable trying them on squirrels under 50 yards. It’s hard when you know kings will hit the mark! Then again a predator has a much larger damage radius so you can afford to be off a little with body shots.
I just received some H&N Hunter “Hollow points” and Im pretty excited to try them. However we have quite the frigging Snow storm at the moment! 👿 So when I get around to it I’ll try them out.
3/4 MOA is just O.K. at 50 yards for an Edgun. They are capable of way better performance. My question is how is the accuracy at 75 to 100 yards with the Predator Predator pellet? I would love a way to get them to be consistent at long range.
This is what an Edgun .22 can do shooting the 18.1 JSB at 50 yards. When I get this kind of accuracy it’s hard to go back to an inferior combination
Ex, it seems most the reports are showing the best speed for the .25 predators is on the lowest 900s, I do have a Edgun but is a.30 cal, I used them on my cricket and My condor, I exclusively shoot predators on my condor and I get 0.75 inches groups at 50 yards all the time, my condor is regulated and set at 920 fps. I almost get the same groups with my Cricket but I shot JSBs most of the time and its set at the same velocity.
Well…. I just happen to have a tin of those bad boys!!! Thanks for the reminder. When the conditions are good, I’m going to test them out. They did not seem to fly very well in my Condor, but then again the Predators did! So maybe just the opposite will happen with the EDgun.
As for the predators I turned my gun down to 860 and got them to fly okay, they still won’t group like the Kings. The problem was no manner what velocity I shot them past 50 yards it was a crap shoot in terms of POI. I like most airheads just ended up giving up like you did. Where they are handy however is inside a barn where you don’t want to punch holes into the galvanized roof after shooting a pigeon.
Keyser,
Your very welcome!! It sure is a small world.. Thanks for the Tip! I’m going to use these for hunting close range. Most of my squirrel hunting is well below 50 yards. What’s pretty cool about the Matador is the fact that you can load different pellets easily in the magazine on the fly, and as long as you don’t put one in the barrel, you can select which pellet to shoot. Close range Predator, long range absolutely the Kings!!
Have you tried any other hollow point ammo. Like the H&N hunter?
That was a great video. I spent my Autumns in Mount Vernon ME hunting grouse with my Granddad and my winters on a snowmobile on Flying pond. Your videos brought back some good memories. So thank you!

Come to find out my gun was running faster than I thought. Actually it probably changed since the last time I checked which was day 1. I turned it down and the predators seemed to group pretty good! Only problem was my regulator did not agree with the HST setting. The first 2 mags were okay but then velocities were all over the place? I ended up back at around 945 for an average. I’ll just use the predators for close range I guess for now. I’ll explore different speeds after my gun is fully broken in.
Exziver,
Here’s a 9 shot group from an R3M long.
Polymag 25 cal., 26 grain
Range: 40 yards
Tank: 180 bar
Max MV: 938 ft/sec
Min MV: 927 ft/sec
Avg MV: 931 ft/sec
S.D.: 4.4 ft/sec
Spread is around 1 inch (see photo). Some of this spread may be due to the MagnetoSpeed chrony attached to the end of the barrel (see photo). The attachment strap makes very light contact with the tank. This may well open up the group a bit. The Polymags seem to do a bit better without the chronograph attached, but I don’t have a measurement. For reference, the JSB 25.4 grain pellets will hold a 1/2 inch group in similar circumstances.

I would think you would need to dial it down a bit to about 915-920 fps. Polymags 25 cal in my experience with them that it doesn’t like it as fast as Kings. That make for a diminishing return …………..

Yeah I was just checking to see if others had better luck. I know Ted had them shooting very well out of his R3 and I thought that they were pretty much the same gun except for the Magazine. I guess I’ll have to try single loading to see if that changes anything. My .22 Cricket and .25 Condor shoots them better at 50 yards. I just found that strange. No big deal!
Thanks
Yep polymags in general do not pattern well. The same phenomenon seems to happen in every gun and every caliber I own. I is a real shame too because they hit critters hard. The groups get even worse past 50 yards. If you are going to use the polymags I would say to use them for shots that are sub 50 yards. I would not recommend altering your Edgun to accommodate the polymags, the Edgun was designed for the JSB kings. Ed knows what he’s doing, best to leave the gun alone and shoot kings.
My R3M doesn’t shoot .25 predators well either. I can shoot decent groups with the JSB Kings during a session, but once I switch to predators, the groups clearly open up. Two different tins of predators ordered about 4 months apart are giving me the same results.

Interesting. Maybe too much velocity for the hunter extremes? Good luck with hunters.
