Q:

How did you install the picatinny rail?

Did you use recessed nuts in the stock and machine screws from the rail end?
Or wood screws?

For my bipod, I bought a short (plastic it turns out) length of picatinny rail that came with flat nut plates. The nut plates need to be recessed very deeply, because the screws are short and the stock relatively thick.

Before I gouge deep cavities I thought I’d check with you guys for possible alternatives.

+ 1 for countersunk. I usually use a wood swivel stud in the front hole though so i can attach a swivel if needed. A need hasn’t arised as of yet though ..

If you put the swivel stud in the front hole, won’t the sling and the bipod interfere with each other?
I was going to put the stud in the rear for that reason.

Nope. I use BT/Atlas rail .

Ville’s used to having a stud in all his holes, just ask Lead…..

You might want to consider a “counter-sunk oval” head screw for the picatinny rail.

The screw holes in the rails are generally “counter-sunk”, (sloped edges) and if you want the screw to fit flush with the top of the rail, a counter-sunk screw head is needed. A counter-sunk oval head has a slightly rounded head on top that also fits/looks very nice.

Hardware store.
any Home Depot or Lowes will have an equivalent.

I don’t even have a truck.

These are working perfectly for me. Just be sure to predrill your stock… you don’t want to split that beautiful wood.

Those look nice and bitey, where did you get those?

I’m holding off for now on installing a rail. The Vulcan is the ideal truck gun.
