Q:

How do I stop my Talon valve from leaking?

I charged it up and when I disconnected it there is a VERY quiet hissing. I hooked it up again and opened the valve from the SCUBA tank thinking it hadn’t seated. That didn’t work, so I installed it in the gun and dry fired it. No dice. I have a very slow very quiet leak. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated.

Here is urethane o rings.

Harbor also sells a watch back wrench with adjustable pins. It’s a pita, but it works. 😉

I haven’t made a mistake all day now so let me guess.

70 and 90 are measurements on the durometer scale for rubber o-rings.
“D” or “duro” probably stands for durability.
Since, was it pig buttons? told us that 70d is stretchier and 90d is not so stretchy, I would guess that 90d is the more durable.

But, maybe on another thread, someone mentioned the assortment from HF. I have those and they don’t rate them other than saying they are “Nitrile O-Rings”and, “Nitrile rubber construction!”
They’re “Resistant to heat, low/high temperature, air, water, petroleum products, mineral oil and hydraulic fluids, natural gases, kerosene, silicone fluids, non-aromatic fuels and solvents”
For use in: “…in plumbing, hydraulics, air, gas connections and many industrial applications”.
They seem to stretch a little so I guess they may be similar to 70d.
Unfortunately it doesn’t contain a size 014. But it has size 011that works for the breech, just not as 🙄 durable ❓
Also, it has size A010 that I find a perfect slide on fit for a poor man’s regulator. I believe it makes a double seal, if needed?, for the valve stem when at maximum travel as well as to cushion bounce and re-strike of the valve as powderburner so aptly explained.

But consider that I am 5 hours overdue to make a mistake, ever since I got up around 1 PM 🙄

Yes 014. You can use those but would be better if you could get a 70d urethane. I put 90d in mine.

Ok, Thanks. Where do you buy those and what does the 70D and 90D stand for?

By all means, the more info the better. Will someone confirm the size? Is it .014? Is it a special kind or just a normal (Lowes/Home depot) O-ring?

Savage,

X2 on Global warming.

Besides that bit whiz dumb, I bought an Adjustable Pin Wrench from Harbor Freight for that job. It won’t work as the Pins are to big. So, Mod it ❗ I filed and filed the 2 puns to get the right size and spread.

Oh, make sure all the pressure is out of the tank 1st or it would be difficult and dangerous.

Hope you don’t mind if I jump in; the reason your stem seal / o-rings might have failed is if there is too much temperature change in their environment. You sometimes see this if the bottle / rifle is left in a hot car and then taken into an air conditioned space frequently or if you dump all of the bottle pressure quickly and then refill. Standard o-ring material becomes brittle when exposed to rapid temperature shifts though they can tolerate extremes in either direction if the change is slow enough.

Thank you both. I have divers silicone. Does silicone “Go bad”? I’ve had it since I had my gun (five years I think) also, any ideas as to what caused this? Do O-rings just wear out?

It does not go bad as long it is kept air tight

Adam, any idea where I’d get the (Spanner?) wrench I’d need to try and tighten the brass inner part?

Also Adam what would cause them both to go bad or start leaking at the same time?

Or “YES” if some one slaps your tits a little too hard! 😀

Wait, what kind of silicone were we talking about? 😕 😆

And put a little of the divers silicone on the “O” ring before installing it.

Hint, If you live in an area with no access to divers silicone, you can go to the auto parts store and ask for spark plug boot grease. Same stuff, just not food grade. 😆
