Q:

How do you guys polish stuff

That title was grammatically correct by the way. Anyway, I am thinking about polishing some hammers and trigger sears while I’m stuck at home for the week. What do you guys use for polishing? I have a case tumbler with everything setup to to rifle casings, but I am worried that either the cleaner is going to mess something up, or I will leave something in for too long. Is the a way to mess it up in a case tumbler? Is a case tumbler ok to use with parts like these? Should I not use the liquid solution and just use dry tumbling media? Thanks for any advice!

The lathe for round stuff, obviously. A hardwood sanding block for flat surfaces. I have a separate granite slab for polishing stuff that must be PERFECTLY flat. A Foredom Moto-tool to get into small places. I go to the body shops for good wet and dry paper.

Use felt wheels on your Dremel. You can use things like JB Bore Paste, Brasso, Flex (I think that is what it is called), even toothpaste and/or baking soda. Any very fine grit compound will work. The idea is to smooth out the rough surface, not grind it down. Using something like this stuff will take quite a bit of time and effort to grind it down to the point it is dangerous.

I was planing on using case tumbler cleaner and just applying it with a spray bottle. The plastic is spread out like a cutting wheel, but in strands like wire. It is hard plastic, but flexible like weed wacker wire but much thinner. The other wheel I was planning on using is almost, what feels like, pure cotton or some other organic soft cloth. It’s just a whole bunch of layers of cloth held together somehow.

I have a dremmel with he soft polishing and plastic wire polishing wheels, but I’m worried that I might take too much material off the trigger sear and make it unsafe. Is that possible with a dremmel? The tumbler is filled with pecan media also.

What kind of polish you going to use? The plastic wire polishing wheels? Are they impregnated with diamond?

4″ nylon buff mounted on 3600rpm grinder motor. I load the buff with gray diamond rouge. I use my jewlery wood hand vice to hold small trigger parts.
