How long is the choke in a 24" BarreL?
How much barrel is needed to to be cut off in order to remove the choke and recrown a 24inch .22 condor barrel?
Also do new barrels include barrel bushing?

I take it that was a .22? Makes me wonder how the .22 heavies would do from an un-choked barrel. We still have the freaking mold!
No Jerry, this was a 24″ .25 barrel I had laying on the shelf.
It was pretty accurate with kodiaks and Kings, but shot EJ pellets quite poorly.
After the chop, EJ accuracy increased quite a bit, but I am waiting for a couple more tins before I can really give it the acid test.
Might be a moot point since it now shoots Kings one on top the other all day. Waiting for the Kodiaks to show up for that test too.

There has been a few changes in chock length over the years with HW , the pellet down the barrel is the best way to check , another thing that changes barrel ID and chock dimensions is if the OD has been changed by threading for comps ,the more you take off the put side the bigger the inside gets to a point .
Another thing that changes ID is wear from both pellets and how many times you have JB pasted the barrel .
There are also taper lapped barrels like Anchutz blanks that have a constant taper .The pellet in the barrel is the best
I just chopped and crowned my 24″ barrel, I removed about 1.25″.
I did push pellets and patches down the bore but I couldnt tell where the choke began.
I cut the barrel due to corrosion from what I think was mouse crap. They appear to have been crawling over my shelving in the gun room.
Anyway, I am very pleased with the barrel now. Best its ever shot and yes, domed EJs now shoot pretty well where before it was like shooting a shotgun. The real surprise was when JSBs became even better; I was very pleased with that discovery.
That’s an interesting question. You can probably just find out easier than getting an answer here though. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any choke dimensions posted, except maybe my comments on the Sumatra I modified.
Take a few pellets out and prepare to run them through the barrel with a cleaning rod or heavy gage weed trimmer line. Feeding the pellet from the breech, just run it down the barrel until you feel the choke. Stop pushing and measure the distance from the muzzle to the pellet. I’d repeat that a few times to see if I was consistent and then determine where to make the cut.
I expect the LW barrel to have a more gentle choke than my Sumatra did. The Sumatra had a choke that was only about a half inch long and pretty severe. I could load a pellet into the muzzle end and after it got past the threaded portion of the barrel, it would fall to the breech! Cutting off the end of the barrel and then doing a dremel tool crown (no, I don’t recommend my crown technique but it worked) gave me much improved accuracy with the heavy slugs. I’m pretty sure some of the “after” groups are posted on this site…somewhere.

Did the velocity and accuracy improve cutting the choke with bullets and not with pellets? Do any have chrono´s of this?
It should be very interesting, because I´m modifing my condor to work with 300 bar of Helium and launch .25 heavy (80grains) bullets beyond 1000-1400fps and the idea of cutting the choke sounds logical. With .25 70grains Jerry´s slugs I have reached 750fps with only air with good accuracy (two inches at 50meters is good for me and the idea of 70 grains)
I´m working too with a firearm barrel .22 with the appropriate twist to reach 2000fps, but with firearm bullets and 300 bar of helium.
With 100 bar of Helium and 100 bar of air (total 200bar) 1300fps is easily achieved with 38.5 grains, but I have no more data, because the moderator of my condor “exits” 20 meters after the second blast in front of the chrony 😀 😀 .
So, would the cut of the choke in a .25 bullet designed for air help in accuracy and velocity?
