How many fills from a Guppy?
I’m waiting on my Shoebox compressor and don’t know which 4500 cyl to order. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the TAG JD. 😀 I find the “BB” guns much more fun to shoot than the rimfire stuff. More often than not, my bb guns shoot better than I can. 😉

The way to look at the safety of those tanks is like this, if a fireman is wearing a scba tank on his back that is current and 14 years old, is he just about to blow up working a fire?

Oh, yeah.. I am an old 55yoa powderburner and get very bored with the SOS if you know what I mean. I handload, swage bullets and the whole bit. I just got interested in 22RF benchrest and after someone showed me a target he had shot with his 22RF I advised him I had a 22 cal pellet rifle (FX Timberwolf) that would bite his 22 in the ass at 50-60 yds. So I drug the FX out of the gunsafe and I’ll be damned if I’m not spending money again on bb guns! I just received my talon a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I just had forgotten how tiring the handpump is. So when my wife finds out I’ve dumped about $1500 bucks over the past 3 weeks on bb stuff she may run my tired ass off! 😀
Guys, I’ll probably take what ever I can get if they are free. 😆

That’s the info I needed. I’m an LEO and have contacts with all the local fire dept’s and also EMS. I just didn’t know if these tanks were safe after they were put out of service. I already have a few 88’s promised for free, as soon as they receive their new tanks. These are 4500psi SCBA tanks.

If your going to fill it all the time with the Shoebox and never at a fire station, get an expired 44 cuft 4500 PSI scba tank, and then buy a fill assembly hose from Joe Brancato.
Maybe you know, but I will assume you may not know, that the expired scba tanks are still perfectly safe, we outdate them from service in the USA at 15 years mainly because nobody really knew how long they would last, but in Europe, those same tanks are used for 30 years.
Many people on this forum use the outdated or close to outdated scba tanks and have saved a small fortune collectively.
And unlike a scuba tank which is a bomb if it fails, the scba tanks just rupture. The only scba tank that anyone has written about that failed, was carried in the back of a firemans pickup truck, and had been compromised by corrosive chemicals, or so the story goes.
I have a Pygmee tank and three outdated or close to outdated 44 cuft tanks. THe pygmee is half the size of the Guppy, and lke the Guppy it is very handy, I get three or four fills, so you should be looking at 5 or so fills if your filling to 3000PSI from 2000PSI on a AF 500 cc tank. The problem is that altho they are nice for field use, if you shoot alot, you will be filling the smaller ones a lot.
If you go onto Ebay, you will find 44, 66 and 88 cuft tanks that are outdated or very close, they are a fraction of the cost of new tanks. You can pickup a 44 cuft tank for less than $100.00 if you shop around. There are dealers on Ebay that make a living buying those tanks from fire Depts and selling them to airgunners and paintballers, and they will sell one to you. You can buy one of the used 44 cuft tanks for about a third of what you will spend on a Guppy

and love it. perfect for shoebox. I get more than a dozen refills with my marauder. You fill it after you use it who needs more? that is 150 or more full power shots with .25 Marauder. About 300 plus with daystate. The shoebox is made for the guppy. best $ I ever spent. Easy to carry forget those bigger tanks! My tank is a couple pounds about 12 inches long and fits in any backpack. I cannot say enough about guppy tank. anyone want to buy a scuba tank! (heavy bulky)
