How many people here have a mosin nagant?
I’ve been noticing that a lot of people on here have some form of the mosin nagant. I have a m44. I talked to “get the blue jay” about his. Synopsys mentioned he reloads for his.
So how many people actually have one?

And with the older one’s, the 1891 and 91/30 models, you can turn it around and use it as a long club when you’re out of ammo. 😀

These guns are simple and built to last. Even the very first ones from the late 1800s still work. Those, of course, cost some big $$$
In fact, in pre-WW1 era, some of these rifles came with Zeiss optics. When the war started, it was over, for obvious reasons. The rifle of a famous Soviet WWII sniper, Vasiliy Zaytzev, is exhibited in the Moscow’s military museum, one of the must-see places.
These guns are tanks, reliable, and great open sights shooters. I know a guy who can hit a human size target 3 out of 5 times at 500 meters with open sights. I know it is crazy but I’ve seen him doing just that. The Brown Bear 185 gr. FMJ seems to perform best. After that is Winchester 180 gr. If you have difficulties opening the bolt after you fired a shot, change the ammo: it’s the thickness of the rim on the carthridge that causes it. Great guns.
Ive got a 7mm mag as well and I do better with the m44 on groups, I an looking for a new stock for the 7mm thou
If I do my part it is a “tack driver” that is if I don’t have the “hart beet twitch” that day
Something about the look, feel and wood stock has me keeping it like it was made!
I am not reloading that round just yet, it’s actually cheaper to buy the Remmington ammo than it is to reload my own, I do keep my brass though… 😉
Oh and for those that have these rifles, DO NOT use Wolf ammo, it’s crap and destroys the rifling…
don’t do the Monte Carlo! I worked and worked to get that dam thing seated and floating and after It was good I just didn’t like the feel of it and it never was the nail driver that it is with the wood. I do suggest going for the scope perch that mounts in the stock sight location, all it takes is a drift and a hammer, and an allen wrench to install and if you ever want the iron sights back (which I think are very nice and accurate) it’s two screws and a pin away from being back to stock, and with the pistol or long eye relief scope there is nothing in the way when loading and you dont need the bent bolt.

I went on a site where they call the synthetic stock and the bolt mod, Bubbarizing the rifle… I figured if I wanted a high power tack driver i’d get a 7mm or a .224 like Lamas!!!!!! 😉
The idea of the things really isn’t tackdriver. Some are, but that’s not what they are made for.
What they are made for, is a gun that will hit a person from a good distance at -60 below temperatures, and not explode.
That’s soviet engineering. And I love it. 🙂
My friend tells me that thae groove diamater goes from .308 to .314. That’s a broad range.

thanks naked mole rat, the place I was buying my bulk ammo has been on vacation for about two years now and I needed a new supplier, you just got to love them “silver tips” and I’m running dangerously low

I saw these at Wideners.com…I think that they will work in your M44’s.
Ha. Yeah. It’s nothing super special. And it’s corrosive, but as long as you clean the gun shortly after you shoot (not like, 3 seconds later, but don’t let it sit for a week) then it’s fine.
And you can’t beat the price. I’ve never even considered reloading. I don’t think you can reload any cheaper than that.

My dad has a mosin nangant in the garage, bought it for $159.. 8) That thing is F’n huge.. with the bayonet on its like an inch shorter than me 😯
