Q:

How many shots?

Hi guys,

By an absolute stroke of luck I purchased a Talon SS this morning-only 2 in South Africa that I know of. Bloody hell it is one awesome little rifle. With its silencer it is quieter than any of my s400s and Hw100 I’ve owned previously. I’ll do a hammer slap mod on it once the novelty has worn off but for now I need some help.

I’ve set it up to do 800fps with Jsb 8,4gr(4,5mm) pellets. What is the standard fill pressure and how many shots can I expect? It has a 12″ barrel.

Thanx Nick

Talon/Talon SS

First stupid question if I may?
Why does a .177cal give more shots per fill than the pther calibers? Does it have to do with less air needed to move the smaller lighter pellets?

Hi Theuns, welkom ou maat.
Wildeboer (meaning Wild Farmer) and I come a long way. He has just purchased a Puma Concept rifle which is a copy of the Talon. Beautiful with a high quality finish. Only. Few were ever made.

Theuns, you’ve answered your own question spot-on. Pushing a heavy pellet at the same velocity would require more air in .22 than in .177.

Hi Nick, ek is hier(translated)hi Nick, I also here now, thanks to Tony.

I also aquired a Puma rifle, very similar to the Talon except it has a 20″ barrel and uses a 12oz CO2bottle as airsource, which I fill up to 160bar HPA.

I will ask a lot of questions on different topics over the next few weeks, please bear with me then 🙄

Steve, a few of them have joined already and another is having issues of some kind-he registered more than a week ago but still waiting to get access to TAG.
Shotgun shells! I thought it was just me. After spending hours plinking at empty shotgun shells I became bored. My targets have changed to empty 9mm cases-i love the sound they make when hit at 100m. These little plastic army men have also been sniped at 100m. My 100m range is shooting from one side of a small dam/lake to the other. Always got wind so always a challenge. I can’t say how many hours I’ve spent there, its my happy place.

That’s great Nick! Guys all over the planet have had the same experiences. Our powder-burner pals are amazed what our airguns can do. Bouncing empty 12ga shotshell hulls at 100 yards always amazes them also. Hell, it amazed me the first time I did it! Point your friends towards the TAG forum. We would like to hear from them too. 😀

Looking at my previous post, I’ve made a stuff-up somewhere. Quoted myself.

Hi Nick, why are the AirForce difficult to obtain where you are?

Hi Steve, until recently no one was bringing Airforce rifles into South Africa. Now one of our retailers has started bringing them in and they are constantly out of stock-the guys here are snapping them up as they hit the shop. I’ve done 2 or 3 reviews on our local forum on the Condor and I guess this woken the monster in them. Everyone who buys a Condor raves about it and understands why I’m always yapping on about these rifles. The Talons that I know of, were imported privately.
Personally I’m over the power craze now and mine is pushing 13,7gr Jsbs at 920fps. Lethal out to 170+yrds. I invited a few friends over for a shoot a few weeks ago and we were plinking at tin cans at 170yrds and they couldn’t believe how effective the rifle was at that distance. Now 2 of them have bought Condors aswell.

I must admit, I love my Talon SS just as much. I’ve had Hw100s and s400s and none of them were as silent as the Talon-and to put the cherry on the top, I’m getting around 250+ shots on a fill so now I top it off at home and don’t take my Hill pump with me anymore. These rifles are just fantastic.

Thanx Adam, that gives a pretty good idea of what I can expect.

well nick 800fps is just over 12ftp
so id say you gotta get 200 or more shots from a standerd 500cc talon bottle.

iv had nearly 400 outa of a standerd power 22 talon at just under 12ftp..
hope this helps. 😉
