Q:

How much louder is 25cal than 22 cal?

I currently have a 24 inch barrel in 22cal and I am considering going for a 24inch in 25cal, but how much louder would the 25cal be? I am currently still back yard friendly with a reasonable moderator. Would the 25 bring the neighbours to the fence or would the difference be negligible and more in the impact of the larger pellet on the target. (That is not much of an issue for me as I set my targets up against a large tree stump that is very sound deadening). I’ve listened to a few comparison tests on youtube, but you just don’t get a real impression of the sound. When it comes to guns things tend to sound a lot quieter than they actually are.

Haha very good Lurker. Fortunately I’ve a plentiful supply of wood stumps so we can shoot them to bits more humanely with the 25cal :-).

Consider how much sooner you will need to grow another stump

Not to worry thou, a bag or two of rubber mulch can work well and make it easier to recycle the lead. 💡

Thanks guys. Sounds like putting the POI sound aside, there isn’t much difference, and I shouldn’t be put off going for the 25cal barrel on the basis of sound. Comments from others welcomed :fishinghole:

Like GsT I have the ss, but mine started as a .25 and I converted to a .22.

Running a Condor SS that I converted from 22 to 25 – I don’t notice much, if any, difference. Sound is definitely dominated by the pellet striking the target.

Thanks.

Is that “thunder” with or without a supressor fitted?

I’m trying to balance power and sound. So for instance I have high flow valves but I have a rubber Oring behind tophat which quietens it down a little and I have kept with the standard hammer spring but I have a brass hammer. I have also got a good “off the shelf supressor” on it. A ten inch Theoben which mops up a lot of sound.

I don’t notice a diffrence between the .22 and the .25 except in impact noise, the .25 sounds like thunder, the .22 has quite the impact also though.
