How old are you?
I’m thinking most of us Air Force gun guys are under 50. Seems most guys on the yellow forum are over 50.

I think that I am the oldest on this forum, but I am not sure of that. There has been a lot of post about past wages and prices here, so I’ll pass a few on also. When I was 10 years old I unloaded RR boxcars of concrete blocks and glazed building tile for 50 cents a day. I could go to the Saturday movie matinee for 12 cents and buy most candy bars and bottled soda for a nickel. I put 10 cent a quart re-refined motor oil and 17 cent a gallon gasoline in my first car. That car cost me $100.
When I got out of USAF basic training I received a raise in pay to $74 a month. I bought smokes n the PX for $1.00 a carton. On payday I would go into Kansas City and treat myself to a rib-eye steak, baked potato and salad for $1.50. Strawberry shortcake dessert could be had for a quarter.
Before heading back to the base, I would hit the news stand for some reading material. Usual purchase would consist of Hot Rod, Motor Trend, Road & Track, Mechanix Illustrated, and Playboy, for $1.50 total.
How old am I? If you’re still with me here, I am 74.
I make 4 time that and live across the street from them my house cost 250K pay didnt keep up to well IMHO.

$10/hr was only attained up here around the end of the 70s and houses up here were $40,000 by then
so up here earning power has pretty much kept up. Way more toys and luxury items my folks would never dream of owning. When I was a kid on the farm most farmers never paid off their debt until they sold. Mind you perhaps that is the same…. 🙂

My father always talks about making $18 per hr when i was born, 1975. The wages in the sawmills around my home town have gone steadily down since then, most only clearing $12 per hr after they are there a while. People were building new homes for $40,000., today the homes are bigger and nicer, but they cost at least $200,000 to build. 😕

Those were the days now it cost $10.00 .
and wages were $2.00/hr and now they are $20.00/hr ? good old days eh.
Back then a family might pay for a home by the time they moved into the old folks home. Today we pay for a home in 20 years or less.
I can remember cheap gas but no dirt bikes around these parts then. None of those showed up until early 70s.
Old enough that I spent $1.00 and got a pack of smokes and a gallon of leaded gas for the dirt bike.
Those were the days now it cost $10.00 .
