Q:

How Quiet is your Matador?

I am seriously considering the purchase of an Edgun Matador. My major issue(the reason for selling a few different guns) is that they were to loud for my backyard,so i would hate to lay out that much $$ just to find out I cant shoot it in my backyard. So please give me some input-the quietest gun i have owned so far is a .22 cal M-rod.Any advise would be very helpful. Thanks,Jim

ONE IN THE HAND is worth TWO IN THE BUSH!

Um… You’re kidding me right? 😯 I know the expression fully well. It’s a play on words. If you follow our joking around I think you’ll understand.

Hoot – The girlfriend is just fine with it. It’s the wife that would be pissed. Lol.

Nope..

You the expression.

ONE IN THE HAND is worth TWO IN THE BUSH!

🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

Does your girlfriend know you posted her jogging clip as your avatar???

I’ll bet she would really be pissed if she found out.

Oh what the hell…..another one that looks just like her will come alone soon enough.

Hoot 😯

PS: Deer tracks in my back yard again, all over my planting beds. Fixing to be a killing soon.

Nope. The last name is not Offe with the silent “e.” Lol. However I’m assuming that my avatar may have tempted you to contemplate “something” along those lines.

I think most of us would rather have two hands on the bush though. 😉

Ed’s men are blistering their hands putting those Edguns together. It won’t be long now.

I understand Ed requires them to sing to him as they work…”For Ed’s a jolly good fellow, for Ed’s a jolly good fellow, for Ed’s a jolly good felloooooow…which no one can deny!!!

I think singing helps evaporate the sweat they produce, as they slave deep into the night assembling those guns. Ed doesn’t like people sweating on his guns.

I could be wrong, of course, I’ve never been in his factory, but I hear rumors here and there.

Old Goat was born with brains, while I was born with good looks. Between the two of us, we would produce the perfect male….but I can’t get him to consort with the same woman as me. He keeps muttering something about Mendel’s peas, Pavlov’s dogs, and Hogan’s goat??? I think it must be a religious thing, because he mumbled something about it being a cold day in hell before he would pay half, and have to go last, for anything. Then he took the Jack Daniels and went home! Old people are funny that way! Probably just gas…

Incidentally, Jag, your last name wouldn’t be “Offe” would it? Kinda as in German, with the silent “e” and all???

Just wondering.

Kindest Regards,

‘Ol Uncle Hoot

I swear, you two (oldgoat and hoot) make for some of the most entertaining (i.e. funny as hell) reading on this forum!
I read a lot around here but don’t post much yet since I’m still waiting (as well as others are) for my standard matador I put $$$ down for back in October.

quote oldgoat:

Every time I see the old biddy siting on her front porch, and the wind is blowing the right way, I start burning leaves in my burn pile. Before I start the fire, I call the local Fire Department and tell them that I am going to smoke the old bitch out and that they will be geting a call from her. They think that it is hilarious.

Goat…
Every time I shoot a rat, I toss it on the roof of the old bitch next door. Old bitches, like deer, never look up. Never! Old turkey-neck will come hobbling outside, and complain about the aweful smell in the heat of the day. On a hot, windless, humid day in Arkansas, smells like that just don’t go away. The buzzards will come around in the afternoon and clean up the mess. Then she comes out and trys to shoo the buzzards away from her trees. Well, that’s like trying to run a fat kid away from a free ice cream buffet.

If I can manage a straight face, I’ll come outside and yell…”You feeling ok? Them buzzards generally don’t come around unless somethings dead, or getting ready to be dead!”

That always sends her inside and gets me a dirty look.

I have the “Bull pup Matador” and the newer models are as quiet as an s410 at mid power…………tried and tested….

Backyard.. as everyone said the pellet hit would be louder……No second thoughts about that…unless your backyard is like 100 yards….

🙂

Thanks for the replies guys,Well at least the serious ones…

I am lucky to have good neighbors… and one of the reasons I don’t want to move. Despite this I have a TT custom 3″ shroud on my TSS to help control the sound. Neighbors describe it as a mild pop.

I have a .22 standard and a .25 long version Matador. The long version is guieter than the standard. The long version has a longer shroud. Ed is not making the .25 Longs anymore but, I believe that you can still order the long in .22. That should give you all of the quiet that you need and also more shots per fill over the standard .22.

I was shooting my .22 standard, last summer, in my back yard. I just had some new neighbors move in 2 doors down. They could hear the pellet hitting my paper target but, couldn’t hear the .22 standard firing.

It finally got the best of them and they had to walk down the alley to see what the noise was. They thought that the Edgun was pretty cool.

Another neighbor, about 3 doors down the other way, didn’t like me shooting my unshrouded Condor. She also came down the alley, saw what I was doing and called the cops. The young officer that came by was very obnoxious and surly. I took me a few minutes to straighten him out. Airguns are legal to shoot from 9:00AM to 9:00PM as long as the pellets stay on the property.

I own a Matador and a Marauder.

The Marauder is as quiet as a factory gun can get, and is definitely backyard friendly.

The handmade Standard Matador is as quiet, or quieter, in my opinion, as the Marauder. The Short Matador is a bit louder and has a sonic echo across the lake when I fire it. That does not happen when I use the Standard Matador. Certainly it must be the length of the shroud.

My neighbors are the cop callingest Codgner/Codgerette in the Village. They watch me with binoculars every time I go into the yard. Has to do with some unexplained pet chicken fatalities a year or so ago. These were designer chickens whose heads had a tendency to explode in the heat of the Arkansas noon day sun. What with fish falling out of the sky in the hundreds, and birds floating to the surface of rivers by the thousands, one can only guess at the cause. Anyway, they equipped the birds with Kevlar:
and the problem stopped…for now.

Short of target shooting in a baby’s bedroom, when its taking a nap, I can’t really find a good reason to need more quiet than the Standard Matador offers.

My two cents worth.

Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot 😯

Neighbors, like dog turds, sometimes cause a stink!”

How quiet is my Matador?

Not very 😀
