How safe is the Edgun?Tubes are Hydro tested (Pictures)??
I decided to open my air gun after seeing the barrel is forming some rust, also to finally replace some of the parts that Ed sent me. To my surprise i found by looking through the tube from the front that about 20 cm down the tube what looks like the tube is thicker at one side more than the other side, if i had to guess i would say at least 1mm. To confirm itβs not a light effect, i pushed a PVC down the tube & it gets stuck at the higher (thicker) point & moves freely if i move it to the other side.
The tube wall thickness is 3mm so now Iβm a little worried & would appreciate if Ed can shed a light on this, i already asked him in a pmsg but i got no reply.
1-Are these tubes, or rods that are drilled ?
2- What grade of Aluminuim is it made off ?
3-Are they Hydro tested? To what pressure?
Any other information would be highly appreciated, also if anyone ever opens up their guns please let us know.

terrible quality of the pictures but I understood what you are talking about.
We use the tube, made of duralumin grade D16T, I tried to find the analog out of Russia but failed and I am not surprised to see the Western made airguns with duralumin reservoirs which have much more thicker walls, then ours, because of the difference of the mechanical characteristics of the duralumin. The second thing, confirming that is that D16T is prohibited to be exported from Russia, as it is considered as a war material, due to its mechanical characteristics. While organizing the production in Estonia we found the problem with the tubes for the reservoir to buy in Europe, and have to make them in Russia and delivery out of Russia ready to be installed to the guns.
The tube is 38×4, we lathe them to have it 37 mm in the outer diameter and bore it by the lathe to have the inner diameter 30 mm. Sometimes it can be out of axis but within the limit of admission. I have to tell that before restyling we used the tube with the wall thickness of 2.5 mm. While testing it with the water pressure we could achieve 650 bar of the pressure and failed to destroy the tube even with the wall thickness of 2.5 mm.
I answered before, that is not aluminum, that is duralumin, it has some mixters in while making that makes the mechanical characteristics much better then ordinary aluminum.
Yes, we have the testing machine which can make maximum pressure of 650 bar and we of course tests the reservoirs for 1.5 of maximum working pressure. In our case it is 300 bar of maximum pressure (like you begin to fill the gun and the valve on your tank is broken and you fill it with all the pressure you have in the tank) and 450 bar of testing pressure. Few reservoirs made from the new set of the tubes are tested with maximum pressure, trying to destroy it but for more then 8 years of such work I never could destroy any reservoir. Just one time on the old Matador reservoir with the wall thickness 2.5 mm at the pressure of 650 bar we have it depressurization because the 0-ring on the plug was just 1 mm from the whole for the fixing screw heads and the plug moved out for about 1 mm and the 0-ring appeared in the whole and the air came out, there was local deformation of the reservoir by the heads of the screws. But I never could repeat it with other reservoirs. Last tests we did for the new bought tubes about a months ago, we measure the diameter during the tests and could find any increasing of the diameter on 250 bar and while the testing pressure was 600 bar the diameter of the tube increased for 0.2 mm.
So, in short, the tube has about 4-5 extra strength then the working pressure, according to the calculation the destruction of the reservoir can happen with the pressure more then 1 000 bar, but before that the plug will be moved and the 0-ring will appear in the whole and the air will come out. It means that is impossible to have it exploded with the extra pressure even if the wall thickness will be less then 2 mm.
