Q:

How to increase Cricket fill speed?? Ernest!

How do I increase the fill rate Ernest?? I don’t exactly understand what your saying to do here-

I like that the Cricket fills slowly because the valve on my scba tank is old and really touchy.
I’d like to slightly increase the fill speed though because it does fill a little too slow. It’s not so slow I couldn’t deal with it, I just came across this old post of Ernests’ saying you can increase the fill rate so what the heck, why not!

All you need is a flat needle file—–> see photo. this is how Edgun increase there fill rate—> both have the same design.

after that you can fine tune the fill rate by the screw—–CW to slow fill & CCW increase fill. but there are limitations—-to much CW wont fill, to much CCW wont seal.

The screw for the 2nd stage adjustment on the trigger is the same screw—swap to undo the mod.

Where is that screw? Can someone pic it to me? I want to increase the fillrate … its to slow.

Ridetoeat, this is totally off topic but when I see the list of your Bullpups it makes me feel like my addiction is in check :butkick:

Yes that’s the screw for the fill o-ring. Put a wrench on it and count how far it turns cw and then stops, if it’s at 1/2 turn or more it wont fill any faster without modding. IIRC Ernest recommends a 1/2 turn CCW from full CW, but let him tell you what to do. The more you back off the screw the faster it will fill but if you back it off too far it will loosen itself and leak.

Sprocket-
Are you talking about the little screw you can see when you remove the gauge/fill assembly and look on the backside of it? I’ll give that a slight turn.
I don’t want to have to alter anything permanently so I’m not going to try cutting a slot in the threads.

And I’d like to have an Edgun one day.. but I wouldn’t trade my Cricket for it. :winkn:

Here’s how to increase the fill speed on a cricket. Sell your bug on yellow. Buy a edgun from Tony and you’re still going to be faster then any other way. Hook up your air hose and in less than a minute your done.

And don´t forget to pray every time you fire your EdGun – so nothing breaks down. You won´t be able to get spares for it in any foreseeable future.
FYI – one of the good features on Cricket is that you can alter/adjust the restriction . A shock fill/very fast fill is just plain stupid – for several reasons. :ugeekn:

😀 no comment !!!! well, maybe someday but not today……… 😉

You might need new fill probe orings or you might have one of the fill probes with the wrong depth slots for the orings, because there were a few of those out there. Ernest knows best but IIRC you need to cut a small slot up the side of the fill screw threads that holds the fill oring in the fill cap. The other way is to only tighten the fill o-ring screw 1/2 turn out from fully tight. I set both of mine to 1/4+ turn out because I like the slow fill, and it prevents a leak from the screw backing itself out further. You’re suppose to fill slowly anyway and it’s a nice built in safety and really isn’t that slow.

My fill probe leaks as well if I have my tank wide open and allow over 3,500psi in the fill line. If I partially open my tank to where the pressure on my tanks fill gauge is just a little higher than the gauge on my cricket, then the Cricket will fill fine and my probe won’t hiss and leak. I have the same “problem” if you wanna call it that.

I have an air leak with my Cricket air probe,, I tried silicone grease on the orings that help a little , But I still have a small sssssssss when I fill from a 4500PSI great white.
