Q:

HPA tank question

I have had my 18″ .22 Talon for over a year now and love it. It started as a CO2, then changed to 850psi HPA tank with the CO2 adapter. Now I want MORE power, but not too much. The Talon gets about 670fps with the HPA with Crosman 14.3s. I would like to get somewhere between 800-900 FPS as I hunt a lot of squirrels in eastern Oregon. My question is what is the best way to go to do this? I was thinking of just upgrading my air tank, but I don’t know which one to use (i.e JDS, Airforce, Drozdmax) and at what psi?

By the way, going to HPA was the best decision I made. Especially for consistent FPS which = accuracy.

Thanks,

Talon/Talon SS

Thanks Hoot.

The Condor/C02 valve will handle whatever you throw at it.

I routinely filled my Talon tank to 3200 psi. I’m NOT suggesting anyone else do it! In fact, I filled my C02 tank to 3000 psi, because it was stamped “1800 psi” and had a 3K burst disk in it. That told me it was pressure tested beyond the burst disk. I am NOT suggesting you do this. If it bursts, it will blow your balls off! That’s a BAD thing!

The pcp air tanks are always pressured tested for use at 200 to 230 BAR, that’s 3000 psi to 3442 psi. The C02 tanks are usually rated lower, anywhere from 850 to 1800 psi. The higher the pressure, the more shots you get. However, some rifles, like the Marauder, prefer a lower pressure of 2500-2800 psi to get really accurate. Each gun has its characteristics. An AF, I’d always go to 3K fills.

The C02 valve passes a LOT of air through it, but it can be improved on. Best let someone do that who knows how. It just depends if you want balls to the wall power, or a consistent fps in the 900+’s. Check out Tony above TT Tunes for that.

You would be well advised to contact Jim Gaska and get one of his EtaC regulators to keep the majority of your shots in the preferred fps range. It’s hard to beat a regulator for consistent velocity and improved accuracy.

Have fun, follow none of my pressure advice, and don’t shoot your eye out.

Ahhh, that’s too bad I missed the tank. I am in the process of selling my tractor and hope to have some money by the end of the month. I will post in the wanted ads when I can. What do you think the minimum psi should be on the tank for output to get the velocity I need? What is the max the co2 adapter can handle?

Thanks,

Wish you would have posted this earlier I was in the market for a condor frame I would havegot another condor bounty hunter and sold you the tank since a have 2 tanks oh well already ordered the frame from airforce will be here this Wednesday

The C02 uses a Condor valve, so no problem there. More air pressure will help. Wny not post a WTB on the sales here and the Yellow to see if someone has an extra lying about. 3000 psi will make a serious difference!

Don’t shoot your eye out!
