Q:

HST adjustment

Well, I did the delrin replacement for the brass piece a couple weeks ago. I also did the o-ring mod at the same time. Anyway, I counted the revolutions when I removed the HST adjuster. I thought I put it back right but it seems the head is deeper into the action than before – not sure. This is on a 22 caliber. Well, yesterday I had the opportunity to chrony the gun. When I got the gun, Tony sent chrony results that averaged about 930 with 18 gr jsb. We further adjusted the gun to get it back to 930. Now the head of the HST is pretty far into the action. Is there a possibility that it is screwed in too far but gives the same fps as a looser adjustment? Whereby I’m simply loosing too much air? How far in do others have theirs on a 22? Flush, 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch?

How should this initially be adjusted? Should it be simply screwed in until flush with the action, chronied to see where it is and then make say 1/2 turns until it is back up to 900 plus?

I will reorder another tin of AA pellets and hopefully they’ll be better than my last tin

I do not know why almost all airgun manufacturers (kalibrgun,AGT…) they stated 16grain pellets like standard for their guns??? Why not 18 grain pellets?

Guokyotoyota is right about everything. You 18 gr afficionados should understand one thing though , and i repeat myself here : The gun is thought out to shoot 16 gr pellets at 930’s. Not 18 gr. If you have to use 18 gr ( i don’t know any good reason to that though ) then the reg needs to be set at unnecessary high pressure. Less shots / fill.

I don’t know about that Ville. Ernest has my reg set at 210 bar and I’m getting 76 shots shooting it down to 110 bar. Velocity is 890 fps.

But i do know. In its factory settings (not retuned regs and shit) it´s configurated to shoot the 16 gr at 282-285 mps.

Regset at 210 B ?????????

Zonk, I call TYPO
don’t you mean reg set at 120 Bar?

Mine was originally set at 150 and I turned it down to 126. Or at least I stopped when I got it there. A couple more attempts would have gotten me to 120 but I thought it was close enough. From 250 bar to about 120 bar I get 66 good shots with an average of 889 fps, spread of 15 and SD of 2.7. using 18 grain JSB.

I think I could smooth out the 15 spread by making more HST adjustments but I don’t know if that is correct. Also, don’t know which direction to turn HST and how far. Testing takes a lot of time and a lot of pellets.

May get some 16 grain to test to see if they group better, etc but I hate to order any. Would have to pay shipping for 1 tin to try. $23 for a test tin is too high for me.

POSTED THIS IN THE GENERAL SECTION!! Yes they were packed well. Pyramid Air always does a nice job. Some were just all bent up but most just have a flat side. Wish I knew how to post pictures. You can expect a few in every tin BUT way way to many as good as they come recommended. Had to be a bad run but JSB’s have been pretty consistent. I just use the AA for string shots on the chronograph and junk shooting. Might send them a complaint and see where it gets me.

Dunk, same thing here. When I opened the tin of AA’s it looked like half were smashed. JSBs on the other hand were not damaged at all.

Were they packed well upon arrival dunk?

quote Sir Ville:

Haven’t you got them yet ??? Clean the barrel before you try them. They might be disgusted by the JSB lead .. 😉

That doesn’t look good at all. I’m confident you’ll get better results with the AA.
All the top FT guys here have gone over to AA. Very uniform stuff.

I don’t know about the AA pellets. I bought 8 tins. 4 18 grain’s and 4 16 grains. I have a lot of BENT skirts and am not happy with them. I also have about 20 tins of JSB’s in 18.13 and 15.89 and they are much nicer quality. maybe I just got a bad batch.

Well, move a little, test, move a little, test is still random since no one can say for sure move X amount and you will be spot on 130.

Testing takes putting everything back together, shooting a couple 30 – 50 shot strings, graphing each string and evaluating results.

if you are not happy, but you don’t feel like doing it, have it fixed.
