Hummingbird magazine indexing mod if your mag isn’t indexing

Here is the offending part…it has no mechanical means to force it to return to magazine gear contact after each shot. It’s passive design required momentum from closing the bolt to overcome inertia and force it back into contact with the magazine indexing teeth/gear. While this design prevented double loading, it also created magazine indexing failures because it didn’t always drop forward into the correct magazine gear contact position, which is shown in the photo.
Ernest is going to attach a small spring onto the indexing rod to guarantee return to full magazine contact after each shot. This will defeat the double-load denial, but I could care less about that, if I can get the magazine to index properly and reliably.
I believe this will be a guaranteed fix for anyone having Hummingbird magazine indexing failures.
I’ve also been advised that operator error can cause the indexing pin not to return to magazine contact, after cocking. Steve, WWAG, said he is going to release instructions, and a video to remedy this. This is a passive part, as designed, and proper cocking bolt return is needed to get it to move to a correct position after the gun is cocked. Personally, I want the spring installed.
Steve at WWAG and Ernest have been busting their humps on this, after I made contact with them yesterday. Steve is determined to satisfy his customers owning/buying the Colibri. I am confident this fix, and/or the new instructions, will resolve the indexing problems permanently. Kudos to WWAG!

I can’t deny the cool factor. I like the side-cocking while holding a sight picture. I like the look of the Bird too. I like almost everything about it…except the indexing fix. My reason seems a bit petty to me even, but paying for a feature then not having it perform (by way of disabling the anti-double-load feature) is akin to buying a car which lists a spare tire as standard, but you buy it and (what the HELL?!!!! :suprisedn: ), there’s no spare tire. Even if you never have a flat, you want the assurance of a spare tire because shit happens. Disabling an anti-shit_happens feature…well each person decides for themselves and I’ll leave it at that.

Maybe when it was semi auto the rapid movement of the bolt made sure it went into place correctly. Say compared to easy cocking & loading. May work better if you work the action like your are mad at it. Like back in the early 80’s I drove a 30 ton truck that had a V6 Detroit 13 spd. in it, through the mountains. You would have to slam your hand in the door every morning to get really pissed off to be able to drive the damn thing. It worked better if you got rough with it. Seriously, I hope & think they about got the HB problems solved. Maybe it came to the market a lil to quick, but damn it is cool looking & it will perform perfectly soon.
I would hope Ernest tests this fix on several samples before calling it done. Let others test the samples before declaring victory. Do the testing Kalibrgun should have done before releasing this product.
