Q:

Hummingbird Review???

Ernest, you have had some time with the Hummingbird, and some vacation, how about your take on this little bird? Thanks for all your efforts in this crazy hobby, you have inspired many, and helped with all sorts of engineering problems. What do you think of the Colibri? Is there a compact model in the future?

Thanks for all you DO

Regards

Good to know Ernest. Might get one after all. The AT being separate from action is important

Its a Keeper and here is the list of what I like and dislike:

Like:

1. The regulator can be adjusted externally while pressurized.
2. forward cocking
3. for its length and power its the quietest BP
4. its narrow aft of the AT that makes it vary easy to hold, not like holding the cricket with the AT and barrel.
5. about the same shot count as the standard cricket, even though it has a smaller AT.
6. Has a larger bleed screw then the cricket—haven’t seen one leak—yet!
7. No Ping, the AT is forward, and not directly screw on to breech where the hammer and spring are.
8. safety rocker–even though I don’t use a safety in any kind of air guns just because I don’t want the hammer spring compress to long to prevent inconsistency in the speed.
9. AT flex doesn’t affect barrel alignment — no POI shifting due to change in pressure in the AT
10. shroud baffles vent can be adjusted — control the pressure in each baffle chamber, if you have turbulence issue that affect accuracy.
11. great trigger—but need lighter spring and adjustable collar to get a lighter pull. it will never have a long 2nd stage creep, 1st stage travel is adjustable but making the rods longer or shorter.

Dislike:
1. magnetic mag index not consistent—with all adjustment made it will still miss a pellet now and then in a fill but not all HB are affected—the 2 mag lever slop and magnetic drag/frictions making it inconsistent. I installed a spring mod to replace the magnetic advance but also disabled the double pellet loading safety—that’s something I can do without.

2. cocking spring and rods return assist—make cocking rough and stiff, I totally remove them for smoother cocking.

3. cocking bolt can be small at times—so had some custom made for my liking.

4. some had blow back issue, it was mostly the 2 barrel set screw were loose and not tighten—the barrel has no oring to seal the transfer port, it relay on the set screw to be tight to seal the ports.
