Q:

Hummingbird Shot String Today

Here is some shots I ran over the chrony today. The ones on the left were 15.3 JSB filled to 3500 psi. The column to the right were 18.1 JSB.

The two parts have to be sent to me’ I’ll install the spring mod. Unless you can drill a .75mm hole on the hammer shape lever on the side and cut a groove for the spring on the other achor point. Then I can send the spring. It’s a macro mod.

Thank you.

Ernest, are you going to make a video on the indexing fix for the hummingbird? Do you make a fix kit for sale?

Every once in a while my magazine will not index…other than that, it’s a great gun.

To get a good sight plane I used a 1/2″ picatanny riser. I’ll try and post some photos tomorrow.

Dear “Old Low-Hangers”….

Don’t forget you can take a metric hex wrench and loosen up that butt plate and drop it down a couple of inches to accommodate a scope that is too low for comfort. That’s what I did.

Too cold to shoot for groups today, although I was hitting a bottle cap regularly at 41 lasered yards this afternoon. If it’s warmer tomorrow I’ll get out some targets and post the results.

I think the ‘Bird is a great little gun. Way more accurate than I expected! I got the indexing problem fixed this afternoon with Ernest’s spring mod and no misfires at all.

Hoot:

Thanks I forgot about that. That could have helped some. I got the height about right for me. I have 0.800” from top of Hummingbird Base to bottom of scope. I had an inch and it was just a tad to high, tried half inch and way to low.
Glad you got those indexing issues ironed out. I love mine so far.

WOW Hoot 41Y at 37FPE, didn’t know 18.1g was that stable at that speed unless you lower it down some?. I shoot mine at 900-910 and pleasingly accurate. Let me know if you have any problem with the spring mod, no miss index over 1K so far, no rubbing magnets to deal with.

Hope you get some coons soon, PM me some photos if you do!

That is what I was always told. But my FX Royale with a 24 inch ST barrel is shooting 18.1 JSB @ 980-1000 fps and I can easily keep them insides a dime @ 52 yards. Here is one group I shot with it. Do you think it is because it is a ST barrel? I did not want it to shoot that fast, but with the long barrel I ran out of room backing the hammer spring nut out. Since I screw everything up, I was afraid to cut any coils from spring. So I tried it and it shoots great at those velocities.

Here is my shot string with it ( FX Royale .22 18.1 JSB 24″ ST Barrel)

Shot the Bird today. Below are some groups, I made adjustments to the scope during these groups so some of them are toward the right and others to the left. All were @ 42 yards with 15.1 JSB. The group of 24 was fired very rapid, just for the heck of it. I always manage to get a flyer, no fault of the machine, just me. I had the Connect set between 8-12, used my glasses on some and other w/o. I do not have the best eyes. I think I like 8 power for this distance the best. I can very easily see a good shooter getting .250 group at this range. I will not post any more groups until I manage to get one without a flyer. I may have to shoot just one shot. I am anxious to see some groups from you guys that are good shooters with yours.

Yes Nutcracker  , it would be better in a one unit system, less one more thing that can go moving.

His idea was to use just one very wide ring in order to keep the weight down and that is what he could find at the time.
If you’d come across a 30mm extra wide Picatinny/Weaver ring mount(s) let me know.

I’ve also spoke with Jeff at Trenier Outdoors about them getting the proprietary MTC Optics Viper Connect Mount in Picatinny/Weaver mountings.
But he wasn’t sure if they’d be availably anytime soon. 🙁

That does look better, for sure. Makes a serious looking unit. But would be even better if you did not need the adapter, but @ least that adapter is small & low not big and bulky like my darn risers. I am going to get another mount that does away with my riser. But not now, I am going to shoot it some.

Ok, sometimes I don’t understand what I read. Heck, sometimes I don’t understand what I write.
The AMD, that other one looks crazy, I think it would of made me dizzy. The AMD is pretty cool, I like it.

340 shots that’s very new still, I’d wait up a bit more before retuning it.

What rings did you use to mount the 3x12x24 MTC Connect ?

I was interested in getting one also and looking for more ideas to mount to a picatinny rail.

Return it, why would I do that. I love the little featherless freak. It feels better to me than my FX Royale, and is one of the most natural shooting pieces I have shot.

I got a botched up mounting job on the MTC. I have a couple one inch high mounts, had them on there and they was just a tad to high, but not bad. So locally I could not find any 30mm rings higher than half inch, so I tired that, way to low. So I remember I had a set of half inch high risers, I run back to the gunshop and get a set rings that are about 3/8″ high more or less. So I put them on top of the riser and now I got a lil under an inch and that is just about right for my monster bucket head. So far the Connect is great, I was shooting sparrows today at 40 yard and it just seemed like I pointed it and it did the rest. For me I think it is gong to be great next fall squirrel hunting. I noticed on the bench while sighting, I had to get myself low and the rest high. But once I did that it is great. To me the Connect seems better when I am standing up, which is how I do all of my hunting, I never sit while squirrel hunting. It is hard to explain, but between the Hummingbird and that Connect, it makes the unit seem like part of you. I can’t wait until tomorrow, to shoot it some more.
